How to finance a career change to Graphic Design? Dear readers, I am thinking of making a career change to Graphic Design. I currently work unhappily as an Office Manager and have been out of undergrad for nearly 2 years. I am not that skilled in using Graphics software- at least not to a level that I think the profession requires. I want to seek a more formal education but it will cost me an arm and a leg and find that I am not offered financial aid by most institutions because I already hold a Bachelor's degree. However, I find it difficult to pay out my own pocket for the courses as I can hardly save money every month. Please offer me your suggestions as to how I can finance this education or more economically learn the software/knowledge. (Someone suggested purchasing tutorial books, but I would also like to get classroom instruction to supplement.) Thank you for your comments. And for fun, please write what city/state/country you are located. I am in New York, New York, USA.

What will a theft misdemeanor conviction do to my desire to pursue a career change in the accounting field? I've just completed my court hearings and have been convicted of misdemeanor theft ($300). Which path would you suggest for a career change? Which would be better: Associates Degree with certificates in diverse areas (Accounting, medical terminology, customer service, front office, icd-9, etc) or Associates Degree and a certificate of completion in another program (such as Accounting)? I am moving from a large city to a small town where most positions only require a high school diploma. I do not have time to get a BA/BS nor do most people have one where I am moving to, so I don't see that as a requirement. May I also add, that I have 15 years in retail sales and management experience, as this is a real career change as well as a relocation. I already have an AS in general studies. I will not go back for a BA.

Looking for career change. I was a legal assistant for 20 yrs and am now unemployed.? I'm feverishly trying to work on my resume but have reached a real roadblock with it especially since I'm seeking a career change into something more creative. I'm thinking of event planning (though I realize that I will need lots of training in this kind of work). I understand from all the reading I've done about resumes that one must have some accomplishments on his/her resume. Well, what if you don't have any accomplishments listed? I had jobs where you just listen to dictation all day long, type, file and answer phones and schedule appointments. Are there any legal assistants out there who feel they are or were stuck in a rut, became totally stressed out and bored with typing/dictation and found a way out of that field and are doing something altogether different for a job? Have those legal assistants / secretaries figured out what their transferable skills are and been able to successfully enter a different field of work that actually pays a decent salary?

Should I change to a career in real estate? I'm in school for fashion merchandising, but it seems like I'm constantly thinking about real estate and it seems that my "passion for fashion" is beginning to dwindle. I think real estate is a career that I would absolutely LOVE. Should I change career paths? Actually, I'm not really interested in SELLING real estate. I'm more interested in something like real estate appraisal. Ummm, yoji, what do you mean I've lost my passion so soon?? I'm a senior in college and I think most college students consider various careers while they are in school. Also, are you familiar with both fashion merchandising and real estate? I've been studying this for 3 years and for about a year now I've been really drawn to real estate and really bored with fashion classes. I think I'd enjoy real estate more because I'm more drawn to it. I'm very good at math and love the real estate process from what I know about it. That's why I'm interested in Real Estate. Sorry, I meant to say that's why I'm interested in real estate appraisal.

I have been looking for a job. My experience is in the medical field(specialized) need career change.Any ideas I worked as an eye bank technician for the last 17 years. This is a very specialized field of retrieving corneas from donors and processing the tissue in the lab.I am a certified tech. but am not a nurse. Career Change? I have been working as a clerical assistant for the last 7 years. I have always had clerical jobs, but now I would like a change. The problem is that I am 40 years of age and I don't know what other career to go into. I am willing to retrain and take professional qualifications if necessary. I have however discounted many jobs such as being a doctor, nurse, solicitor, dentist, policeman, because the number of years involved studying, and of course my age would be a problem. But considering the fact that I may have another 25 years of working life left, what is the best way of looking into another career.? Do you think my question is too broad? If so, how can I narrow my search?

Career Change? I am a Commerce Graduate from University of Madras. My first job is with a Manufacturing Company as "Accounts Executive" for 1 Year. After that, I joined an MNC Bank as "Process Executive" for around 2 Years. Since this job is on contract basis, I joined another MNC Third Party Outsourcing Company as "Senior Process Executive" in "Derivatives Trade Confirmation Agreement Processing" for 2.5 Years. This process was then taken over by our Client and my whole team members joined our Client. I forgo this opportunity and hence, in the same third party MNC company itself, I am given "Business Analyst" designation. The worst part is that, I am not assigned to any project as I do not have experience in the specific domains except Derivatives. I am in bench for the past 6 months. I don't like to come to office itself. But, for my personal commitments, I have to come. Can I change my career from "Business Analyst" role to "Senior Process Executive" role? If yes, Which company I can look out for

Career Change? If you have the opportunity of changing your career, will you do that? Please state what is your current job and what would you like to be..
Career Change? Should I change Careers? Currently I teach art in an elementry and middle school. I thought I would love teaching, but after two years, I don't. I hate dealing with behavior problems, the pay is pitifual and I would like to at least move out of my parents house, and I hate having to be a "preformer" and "on stage" everyday. Lastly, I really want to make art, but by the tine I'm trrough planing, preping, and cleaning at school I'm to exhusted to have a life or make art. Sometimes I feel like my classroom in a prison cell. The thing is, i'm a thesis away from a Master's in education. I don't have many other skills to find a job with, but toying around with the idea of going back to school and getting trained (not another degree, i alread have enough of those)as a web/print graphic designer. I don't know if I want to take on more debt, but I also know I don't want to teach k-12 forever. What advice would you give?
career change? is this a good time to change careers to real estate
career change? I just seen a documentary on a Captain Jack Sparrow and was fascinated by his career as a pirate. I was wondering if anybody could direct me on a career path in piracy.
Career Change....?? Ok, here it is, I don't like my job or the industry I work in. I have a BA in Criminology and I am a case manager working in a big city court system, I hate working with this particular population, I don't want the "counsel" these people, I really don't care about them too much, they're criminals who have bad attitudes. I'm just not Satisfied with the career choice I made. I plan on having kids in the next 2 yrs and I would like a job that I can make at least $40,000/yr in that is FLEXIBLE. I may have to go back to school and take a few classes but I prefer not to have to get my master’s degree. I like dealing with the facts, things that have a straightforward answer/solution,I don’t like math or science, I like working with people, I’d like to do something I can be proud of. I just never felt like there is something I want to be, I didn’t grow up saying this is what I’m going to do when I get older. So basically, flexible career, $40,000/yr, not too much effort to put into it. Has anyone ever felt at all similar to this and what did they do about it, does anyone have a job like I’m describing and what it is?/ I know this question is so strange but if anyone can offer some insight, I would really appreciate it.
Career change? I have a B.Sc. in Business Computer and a 12 year experience in IT among which 4 years as a senior technical IT Trainer. I want to start preparing for a Masters degree in HR Development through distance learning from a Univ. whose degrees in HR are accredited by the US Department of Educ. What do you think of this step? Is it gonna open for me good future opportunities when I get my degree? How much is my 4 year experience as an IT Trainer gonna contribute into my studies and on my CV if I highlight it as previous experience? How advantageous would it be for me to go first for a one year Postgraduate Diploma degree in Training & Development and then going for the Master's in HR Dev. Is this Diploma degree gonna open the door for me to start a new career in HRD and start building a good experience in this regard while I work on my Masters degree? Thanks in advance.
Career change? Can anybody recommend a career outside of nursing that pays well that does not require 5plus years of education. Please do not suggest engineering as I am poor at math. I know the following degrees do not pay well: bach. in sociology, psych, history, liberal arts. I know the following do but my age and skills are a deficit: engineering and computers. Any suggestions? I am currently a nurse but am seriously considering leaving the profession. I'm burnt out.

Career Change? I love to do financial and marketing analysis, however, i've been having a rough time getting entry level positions because i am not a recent graduate. I received my MBA back in 2001 when the dot com bubble got bursted, so all companies freezed hiring. Now that the market is better, I still have a tough time getting job interviews 'cuz they said I am too old and experienced (in other fields) to have an entry level financial analyst position, even though my GPA was 3.8 and I really love finance. Any advice?
Career Change....? I have been a wholesale mortgage underwriter for 5 years; In the consumer finance biz for 10 yrs. I have been laid- off 3 times (2 times in the last year). I'm very fustrated and pretty much done with the industry as a whole. Only thing is that I'm lost! I have no idea what I can do/ want to do for a living. I really cannot go back to school full time because I need a full- time job to make ends meet. I have a college degree (in History, I wish I could do that over again) that I really do not use. So I guess what my question is, has anyone out there been in this situation? If so, what did you do? What process did you use to come to your end result? And my final question... What the heck can somone do with their only experience coming from the consumer finance industry?

Career Change? I work for a small high technology company in which we all are like family. We have numerous multi million dollar contracts. I have had two raises in two years to put me at 22.00 per hour. I am my own boss for the most part, and i have a company car with gas included. I am always on the road however and out of a year i may spend a month at home. I have a new job offer for the government that starts at 44.00 per hour. I am currently in the middle of a major contract and I am the only one with the expertise to finish it. I feel guilty but I have to look out for my future. If I leave and take the new job. How can I quit without burning bridges. I know my current company could afford to pay me the difference but I doubt they will. As for my position I am the Chief of technology with ten IT certifications. If I accept the new position I will have to work out of state for two years which I can afford and with Priority 1 placement I should end up close to home When I am on the road I get massive amounts of per diem if I dont use all of it I keep the difference. This can be as much as 4000.00 per month in my pocket after I pay my expenses for food and lodging

Career Change, Was it the Right Move? I used to be an Accountant, Ten years ago, I changed careers. It was literally from one extreme to the other. I became a Recruiter and Sourcer, and have enjoyed it very much. It was the right move for me. With the way our economy has been with layoffs, downsizings, companies moving from state to state, many of us have also had to change careers. What career did you change from and to, and are you content with that change? Remember it is thru the sharing of information that we can all learn from one another

Career Change Resources? What do you think are the best resources for deciding whether to change careers and to which career? I'm nearing 40, have been in one career for ten years, and have a family. I can't afford to drop my current job unless I have a new one with similar pay, and I feel I am too old to try a lot of different jobs before making a career move. I'm going through "What Color Is Your Parachute" currently but wondered if there were other resources people would suggest? Thanks.
