Is it worth paying for a Career Builder account upgrade in my job search? My husband has been searching for a job for four months and so far no interviews. He has a great resume, education, experience, background, and portfolio...no reason why he shouldn't have some interest out there. Upgrading puts his resume to the top of a employers list when they do a search...worth it?

How do I start again after a stale career search and a not so good reason for leaving my last job? I'm an interior designer by trade and haven't been able to find a job in almost a year. I am looking/have been looking for a job the entire time, but when it comes down to the interview, the same two questions always comes up. Why haven't you worked in the past year? Why did you leave your last job? Then I never hear from the employer again. Truth is I quit my last job because I didn't like the way management was running the store (was a retail sales position) and I wasn't getting along with the assistant manager. So my question is what is the best response to these questions? I'm hoping to recieve a well qualified answer from someone who has been through this or from someone who would be hiring in this field.
Does "Posterwall.com" domain name work for a career/work/employment/job-search website.? This question is best answered by a native US English speaking person. I am setting up a career/work/employment/ job-search website and am considering using the domain name posterwall.com. Good domains are hard to come by. Question is what you think about when you hear "Posterwall.com". The idea is that Posterwall.com can refer to a wall where "Help wanted" and "Need job" notes are posted, like in a public requitement office etc. But if Posterwall.com just sounds weird to native US English speakers, off the mark, strange and definitely not appropriate for such I site I would like to much know it before I buy the domain name. So what do you think of the domain posterwall.com for a job search site site? Thanks. There is nothing on this site now but the URL will look like this: http://www.posterwall.com
Help with Career (not job) search: would like to have certain factors in a job: advise me please. See below.? I am researching careers so I can get a better sense of which would be a good fit for me. I am soliciting suggestions which I will further research. I would like the career field to allow me to do the following: 1. Write 2. Learn on a regular basis 3. Involve somehow helping others or interacting with others 4. Allow me to not just do one thing all the time (aka have variety of duties). About me: I live in America and have a degree in Sociology. I've worked in a nonprofit and a school but have not been in the professional workforce for too long. I am thinking of going to graduate school; please do not base suggestions only on my degree and experience. Thanks!
Job search for post college career? I am graduating in June 2007 with a BA in Business Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara. For the past month or so, I have been actively applying to various posted employment positions online by submitting my resume and cover letter. Most of the positions that I apply for are financial analyst entry-level positions, since I would like to pursue a career in the finance sector. I am deeply concerned with the lack of response I have received from employers. It is making me quite nervous about life after college and my ability to find a lucrative career. Can someone offer some helpful advice, tips, or words of comfort? Thanks in advance.
what type of career is funeral service? I am looking for a job as an apprentice funeral director and all the job/career search sites I go to seem to classify careers in types. What is an effective way to search for a job located abroad? I am American, but have lived more than half my life outside of the US. Career or Job ideas in the Media Industry? I need some ideas to help me in my job search. I've been freelancing for a little while and worked on a few television series. I need a career path with AV, media, video production. Any advise?
Does anyone go "job-hopping" or even "career-hopping" in search for happiness? Or do you just grit and bear it for finance's sake? (Assuming that you're unhappy in your current position.) How do you distinguish the cons that come with any occupation that just make you want to freak out from just complete and utter contempt for the position? To me it all feels the same. I just CAN'T be happy no matter where I am, no matter what I'm doing. I start off with this excellent perserverent, enthusiastic bang and then this "bang" turns into disdain and frustration. I dread going to work. I leave in agony and my head pounding. I go to school now for a new career which I'm in the middle of my clinicals and I am so fed-up. I just can't see myself doing this for a living. I'm just so UNHAPPY!!!! I dread going there everyday and what I have to do. I'm just always so frustrated. Anyone else going through this? Job after job? Career after career? And still NOTHING that satisfies you?
I need to know how to find a job without using job search engines? I graduated with my MBA in December and I also have a BS in Economics. I did not think I would have much trouble finding a job. I live in the Dallas area and have been trying to find a job using job search engines such as Monster, Career Builder, and Hot Jobs but four months later I am not having much luck. I went to school out of state and so the school's resources are not of much use to me. With the internet and technology I feel as if I am getting overlooked because of the number of applicants that can apply even from their current jobs. I tried walking my resume into local companies but most do not accept resumes in person any longer. I really need some advice to get noticed because I am afraid that soon I will have to take a job that I am overqualified for because my grace period for my loans is running out. PLEASE HELP!!

Im currently an accountant for a large company and most days consist of balancing not falling asleep and updating spreadsheets/databases. I would like to move into a financial analyst role that would involve some travel, as I feel this would add an interesting dimension to my career. I need a job working the night shift, any good tips for doing an online job search for 3rd shift? All of the online search sights like Monster or Career Builder don't seem to let me filter out what shift or hours I need. Does anybody have any good ideas on how or where I should search to just find night shift jobs in my area instead of coming through pages of jobs I can't work.
How long to spend on job search? I am looking for my first "real job" after graduating college with a degree in Biology. I graduated in December 2005 worked for six months at a job I decided I didnt like and then went to Europe to travel for a few months. I have now been back and actively seeking a job for about three months. I am broke and bored! I am wondering how long people typically spend looking for their first job. Should I continue to hold out for a job that I think may turn into a good career or should I just take what I can get for now and continue searching while I am employeed somewhere?

I am an African American Female. late 30's, married with 3 children, living in the 2nd largest City in my state;(+189,000). Importance of certifications in job searches and career advice? Here's my situation: I have my B.S. in International Business (minors in French and Finance), my M.S. in International Commerce and Policy, have interned in China and France, am fluent in French / English and am working on Spanish and Mandarin. I have American and EU passports and therefore can work in both areas. I am finding uncertainty in entering any career path and many require certifications such as PHR or CPA, etc... I want to enter a consulting job that allows me major travel overseas but am having trouble breaking through. Any ideas?
What should a 40+ CPA should do in a complex job search? Career coaches have told that 40 plus job seekers should add a sense of "urgency" while working on this activity but other coaches have also said that showing "urgency" is not advisable because it can eliminate candidates because they are "desperate". What is the better approach and why? Please provide pros and cons.
I have an MBA (Mktg) and interested in making a career change to Marketing; how should I focus my job search? I have many years of experience in insurance (claims, personal injury negotiation); my skill set is totally transferable to the marketing field. Trying to determine what types of positions someone in my situation (a person with many years of business experience with a educational background in marketing) should target.
Where Can I Find a Real Job Search Site? I have been using Monster and Career Builder forever. I need a site that offers real jobs. It seems as though the jobs on career builder and monster are always there no matter how many people apply.
Basically for research. Does anyone know a good website for searching job careers; degrees; specifications;? Basically i need a good website for searching careers. Writing an eBook about Job Search - what topics would YOU want addressed in it? I'm going to share my experiences as an Employer and write an eBook for Job Seekers about how to "think like the employer" and get the job. However, I need the EMPLOYEE'S perspective: 1.) What things do you want to improve upon in your career? 2.) What things about the job search process frustrate/intimidate you the most? I have a lot of wisdom to share and I think I could help a lot of people. However, I need to know what topics to really hit home on for this book to be truly useful. So...lay it on me...tell me what you want to know.
Anyone have any ideas for good job search sites? I have tried monster, hotjobs, the local paper and career builders and found next to nothing. HELP!
How to Filter Jobs Search on Careerbuilder.com? Hi, I am trying to filter certain companies like Aerotek, Accountants, Inc. On my Career builder jobs search how can I do that? I want to filter Recruiting firms / Staffing firms Thanks
Frustrated Recent college graduate...do you have any job search advice for me? I graduated from Penn State University in May 2007 and could not find a job. I finally decided to get a "time pass" job in retail in October 2007 and have been working there ever since. I am VERY frustrated with how difficult the job hunt has been for me. My major in college was microbiology and my gpa was 3.4. I am currently looking for any kind of job, even if its not in my field, that is at the college graduate level...i need to start my REAL career. I dont have any internship experience, which I feel is holding me back. I am considering a job in consulting right now and would like to know the best way to get into it. Are there certain companies that hire recent college grads w/ little experience? I have tried all job search sites, college career office (they aren't very helpful in getting you a job), temp agencies, gone on about 10 interviews, and am losing hope in finding a job. What should I do? Is consulting difficult to get into?
What job duties are involved in medical billing and coding career? I will graduate from a medical billing and coding program this May and will be starting my search for a job before then. Can anyone tell me what job duties may be included in this career? Should I expect to work in the front helping patients or will I strictly code?
Can anyone help me with my finance job search? I will take any advice or opportunity regarding employment in the field of finance. I have a Bachelor's degreee in finance and in management from CU. I have management experience but no direct finance experience. I have posted my resume on all the career sites, followed up leads from the newspaper and friends and gone on several interviews. I have been at my current job for 16 years and my degree is from 2000. What else can I do? I have applied for jobs from bank teller to financial consultant. I will do anything just to obtain an entry -level position within my field so that I can gain some knowledge and experience.
How do I post my resume without my current job seeing it? The short story is that I relocated to a different state and found a good job in my field of choice on an online job searching network before I moved. After several months of employment, I've found that this position is not for me. I'd like to begin to search online again for other job positions in this area. However, I know my current employer actively searches for perspective employees on all the major job searching databases (monster, career builder, etc). If my current employer's HR dept. finds my updated resume online (updated to include my current position), will that hurt my current job? I know if I'm searching for a new job I shouldn't worry about what they think, but in the off chance that I don't find anything better suited for me and remain at this job, I'd rather not create tension or doubt in my loyalty and job performance. As a side note, the turn over rate in my line of work is relatively high. Take the risk and post my resume or are there other options?
Should I use the attorney job search service known as "Legal Authority"? I received a letter from Legal Authority http://www.legalauthority.com today and while the job prospects on it sound promising, how is it different from databases such as Monster or Career Builder? Is it worth the money to pay someone to search for a job for you? Have you used it before? All I want is a government job, and I think I could just go to the websites directly to apply.
How do I deal with my boyfriends police job search? My boyfriend is currently a seasonal (bonded) officer for Cedar Point. He has compleated the police academy and he has taken EVERY civil service exam that has come up. I just feel like it is taking so long and so does he. He is really stressing out, and in turn I stress out. Right now he is living 45 minutes away on his boat which is docked where he is working so on top of it all we have a little distance in the relationship, and I am starting to feel like a single mom and I KNOW he wants to be here with us. We want to get married, however we want to wait until he is settled in his career. How do I handle all this stress, while helping ease his mind? I just want to be there for him! Haha I guess this was like 8 questions in one. by no means is it a "bad relationship" it's quite the opposite. I do have to say he is handleing the stress better than I am and he doesn't take it out on me or our son. I think it is more that I am a little empathetic and I can pick up on his stress levels and it isn't anything he is really doing or saying. Also the distance doesn't bug me much because he does come home on his "weekends" and I drive down there every weekend (I am a preschool teacher so I get an actual weekend) it is perfect because it is a very family area so when he goes to work I have plenty to do with our son. Right now it does just seem the difficulty is in that there are very few police jobs here. We have considered the Carolina's next, however he wants to exaust our area first. He is still in the process for two cities by us, so we'll see. He was number 2 on the list after his physical agility test and civil service exam for one city.
I am a high school English teacher who is looking for a new career . Any ideas? I am moving to the Chicago area and would like to switch careers from high school English teacher to something rewarding and FUN! I do not know how to go about searching for new career options that would allow me to utilize my many years of teaching. I am creative and motivated and enjoy being around positive people. Money is a very good thing, too. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I can do a career/job search? I love books, writing, music, coffee and the arts.
Job search advice please! PLEASE!? I am having a great deal of trouble finding a job mostly because I don't really know what I want to do. I have a B.A. in Criminology but am no longer interested in the criminal justice field. I am also very creative. I design handbags and do interior design projects like painting and laying flooring. What should I do? Any advice on changing careers or searching for interesting jobs? I live in NYC and have searched newspapers and online and nothing seems to catch my eye! I need to find a job because the boredom is killing me as are the empty pockets! What should I do?
Ok I need some help with finding job search places online so far I am using the following things? I am currently using backpage.com, monster.com, career builder, craigslist, jobing.com and the local newspaper. Does anyone know of any other places online for job seeking?
Are career coaches effective? Has anyone used them? Did it help you in your job search/career growth? Or is it just a waste of money? Any referrals, if successful?
Job Search Websites? What are some good websites to job search? I will soon have a 2 year degree in web development. Sites like career builder and hot jobs seem to just give me staffing services.
Confused/frustrated with my job search, need advice......? Within the past month my contract ended at my job and I am currently unemployed. I held a Quality Control job with prominent internet company for the past 2 years. Previous to this I was an English and Math teacher overseas (in Asia) for 4 years. In terms of my job search, I been submitting my resume to jobs through online job boards and been corresponding with employment agencies for opportunities. No luck as of yet..... Adding to my frustration/confusion is that I am getting older (36 yrs. old) and feel I need to find some kind of career path. Also the jobs I seem to really want I can't get (this could be psychological). I am thinking that there could be something wrong with my resume or employment history that negates me from getting interviews. Perhaps someone can critique it and provide some kind of support. I am based in the San Francisco, Bay Area, CA. I would appreciate your input on this - thanks I understand parts of this are a little vague but I can clarify and expand with correspondence. I also wanted to add I have a BA in Marketing and a Teaching certificate (no credential) for English as a Second Language.
Job Search sites? Can anyone give me some good job search websites? Preferably other than craigslist, career builder, monster. Thank you I am specifically looking for an entry level position in the public relations field or in magazines.
Job Searching...? Does anyone know where I can find a good job in the 62219 area code? I have tried all the job searches like Hot Jobs, Career Builder, Monster, Jobs.com, and everthing else and none have any jobs that are close, does anyone know of another job search or of a job in this area code. Much appreciated
Do employers search for possible job candidates on the Internet to see if they have a myspace account? Do employers search for possible job canidates on the internet to see if they have a myspace account? When I say employeer, I'm not talking about a minimum wage job, I'm talking about a real professional career job that requires an education. My father told me that I should delete my myspace account because if such an employer were to see that I have a myspace account, they probably won't hire me. I told him that I could put it on private, but he told me that still wouldn't make a difference. Private or not private, if an employer see's a possible job candidate to have a myspace account, they won't hire you, especially if it's on private, because the employer will think you are trying to hide something.
would you compare a relationship to a job or career? I sometimes see relationships the same way as the dynamic of job ....for example, you search for the job, you bring your resume, you make an offer for the available position, the employer responds to you positively and hires you , and during your career, you can see that you can follow with this employer with a career or not , if no, you leave, if not, the employers fires you .. and in comparison to a relationship, you spend your time seeking for a women, you find her, you seduce her, you offer your heart, she accepts, you are hired for the position of her unavailable heart to you , and you try to live up to her requirements, to see if you can make a career in it, until you get promoted to the position of husband ...!! if you don't see your life and future in it, you leave or she leaves ...it's a failure ..!! I think if you apply the same principles if you have success in carreer, you can also succeed in relationship ..what do you think ?
Job search: Job websites or recruiter? Has anyone had success using job websites such as monster or careerbuilder? Or perhaps a specialized recruiter? Any opinions on which one is better? I have a marketing degree and have never used it, so this would be a career change.
I am thinking of leaving my job before the end of my probation period ...? ..but am worried about the effect it will have on my career and job search. I feel like I was missold the role and am really not enjoying it, but do like the people I work with. I have talked to my manager but can't see anything changing. Should I cut my losses and leave before I get stuck in the role, or stick it out for a year or so and then leave with it not looking bad on my CV? I've had a few jobs in the past (of around 2 years in duration) and have travelled, but not done anything like this before.
Career Cruising? does anyone know any other website where i can search jobs/careers and find out things such as the job description, traing/education/and salary???????
Looking for job/career statistics or at least some good websites.? I'm looking for information concerning the following: - avg # of people who change majors in college - avg # number of times people change jobs/careers - # of poeple who change jobs/careers - how often people change jobs/careers (meaning for an individual how long they stay in one place) etc. I'm not so much looking for actual numbers as websites that would have the information and/or some corresponding analysis. I'm searching too, but I figured I'd put this out there in case anyone's already aware. And hey, if you're an expert on the subject, I'd welcome the opportunity to converse. Thanks!

I just dont want to get in trouble if I am not able to do this? I just want to get a head start on my job searching. My ETS is September 14 2008. If there is anyone willing to help a veteran with his job search, please email or leave contact information. Once I return from Iraq, I will inquire more on opportunities that open up for me. Job Matchup? I'd like to find a job that matches up with my skills but there doesn't seem to be any resources that allows you to job or career search based on your skill set that I've been able to find. I've got to several career counselours and they all seem to for people who know what they want to do and not how to get started. Any suggestions?
How can we train our young to begin the job search at 18 years old? It seems like school is a distraction from the bigger prize--the job offer. Too many young people write it off as "4 years where they don't have to look for work." They assume that upon college graduation, opportunities will come flying at them. However, it's nothing more than a formality at this point. Every young person should begin learning job searching skills immediately after high school, so that immediately upon college graduation, they will be able to start at a company that required a bachelor degree rather than take a glorified summer vacation. The job search should begin at adulthood, not after 7 semesters into a college career.
Can someone please help me with my job search? I am about to graduate from a business school in May, and I am currently looking for a job in public relations or marketing. \ I have searched all over monster.com and those other job search websites, but a lot of the jobs are for people with a lot of work experience or are for training programs. I have a job fair coming up at my school in March, and I have been trying to network (however the only people who were able to help were relatives in NY who knew of positions in upstate NY which is a little too far for me to start out my career). I am very interested in working as a representative for a company, and I would like to start out in an entry level type of position so that I can learn more about the marketing field. Right now I am not trying to be TOO picky when it comes to the positions, as long as it has to do with marketing. If anyone knows of any full-time job openings in the MA, CT, or NH areas...PLEASE let me know! I would really appreciate it! Thanks!
Career / Job Title for my Resume ? I am trying to update my resume but am unable to decide what my job title should be. I am called a Billing/Follow-up Analyst at a hospital but I don't do that I just sit in that area. What I do is search in the computer, internet and books. I have 6 or more programs up a day and I search for information. Patient, insurance or whatever is needed to get a claim paid. Once I find the information I load it into other programs in the system and then I bill the claim. I could be searching because it is incorrect or because it is not there at all. I also search for information from reports that has nothing to do with claims -- it could just be information my supervisor wants so she hands it to me. If anyone can please help me with a title I would appriciate it I need to move on in my career.
I need help starting a job search within Childcare? Hi, I am embarking on a career change in order to be at home more often.(raising my niece with the help of my mom who lives with me.) I have a B.A. in Religious Studies and I will have my 12 units in Child development completed by the end of July. My goal is to work with elementary aged children in the after school hours (2:00 PM-6:00PM) I have only done some preliminary searches but everything I have come across requires that you have classroom experience. I work at the church nursery right now which is a paid position but that is the extent of my classroom time, and it is ages 0-2. Any advice? Also, I am job searching within Bakersfield California, if that makes a difference. Thanks

Job Search? I am a young 50 years old female. My children are now out of the house and I am looking for a job that I can enjoy. I have worked in accounting and sales. My most recent job was selling IT classes but the company disolved. I am presently unemployed but want to find that "perfect job". I have an associates degree in business but I would love a career that involves some travel, negioations, or training. Most employment sites seem to be geared to the young. I am not interested in going back to school to further my education but I am finding it hard to get the interviews with a decend paying job. I dont want to "start at the beginning". My questions are: Any career field suggestions?, Should I hire a resume service to give me a professional edge? What do you think about temp jobs?. I can work alone or as a group but prefer smaller groups. I like to make decisions, take action, dont mind a small salary if commission is large. I dont want insurance or finance or retail sales field.Help!
New grad - stressed out by the job search process... advice? I'm graduating this april from a specialist in finance and eco major program from U of T. I didn't really do much in terms of working during my university life. I know so many people with so much more experience than I do. I've been looking for a job for quite a while now without any luck. I'm extremely scared that I won't be able to find a job after graduation. I've been to school career sessions, networking things, and everything but nothing's worked!!! I've also worked on my resume many times but there are just way too many candidates that are better than I am out there! How long does it usually take for a new grad to get a decent job? I don't have the best grades, my gpa is only a 3.01 out of 4. Is this bad? What can I do? I really want a job in the finance field but everything is so competitive in Toronto.
where can i get helpful career/job advice? I have for the past year searched through ads and attended countless interviews to land myself a job I realise I'm not well suited for, I am currently going through my training for my current job for a second time due to injury but during that time off i realised my misplacement in the job. Even second time round in training it still find everything difficult to grasp. Obviously I cant leave my current job until I find another, problem is everywhere I go for career advice I get nowhere. No one seems to be able to provide me with clean sound advice that is of any use to me. I always wanted a job working with animals in someway other than veterinary care and yet no one I have spoken to has been able to provide any other options ior even point me in the right direction to find answers to my questions Any idea of a website or have atelephone number of somewhere i can get good sound advice?
