How dramatic is the cost of living in relation to salary in Charleston, SC? So thank you to those of you who suggested I live in Charleston, SC..I've been searching for apts and love what I'm seeing. I love that the cost of living is cheaper down there. The problem is my old boss told me that so are the salaries. I was expecting if I make 34k now maybe I would have to settle for a job at like 30/31k, but he is telling me that it's a much bigger difference in salaries. I don't know exactly what I want to do yet but I'm 24 and am working as a real estate research analyst, and I used to be in finances/banking. I don't want to do a hospitality type job- I want a career- but I want to make sure those type positions exist and that they still pay at least mid 30s (my ex boss said a job that pays 34K here is probably like 22K there...Sounds like a HUGE difference to me!) Advice anyone? Is this so true about salaries there? Is it that dramatic? And are there "real" jobs as in CAREERS in Charleston, SC (other than call centers and secretaries)? HELP!! PS. I forgot to mention I live in Baltimore/Towson MD right now. A 2BR 2Bath apt runs about 1050 for the cheap end. From what I've seen in Charleston they're about 750-850 for a decent 2BR 2 Bath. I would be moving with a roommate in mid-end Jan 08.
Salary and Title negotiation - HELP ASAP!!? I quit my job 10 months ago, and I've been seeking for employment in the past 4 months. I received an offer today, i weigh the pros and cons against my former employer (same industry). It's a stable mid size company, the culture/management are awesome, no crazy long hours and great learning curve as well. On the cons side: smaller and less reputable firm, the cap salary is 10K less than what I was making, 2 weeks less vacation time, and my title will be demoted from Senior Associate to Associate. My concern is that moving from a larger to a smaller and/or less reputable firm will hurt me in my next career search. And to earn that 10k back with less superrior title might be a little hard. With US Economy at its worst, this probably is my best bet. Perhaps I can wait for the summer to end and they might have more opportunities then. Perhaps, I can negotiate to get more money and/or better title? ( any tips on this) Any feeback and tips would be greatlly appreciated.
How can I start a career in the trades? Plumbing, Electrician, Carpenter? I'm tired of the corporate world and I've heard the trades are hurting for people. My salary must be at least the same as I'm making now. I have two grad degrees but I'm tired of working in the cubicle farm. I've searched high and low online so if you could provide a link instead of just "insight" that would be great
Where can I find a career apptitude test/list of careers online? Like I said, something online. And free. Also, I don't want a test that simply categorizes you (Art, music, food, etc.), but instead gives you suggestions. And if it's possible, I'd like a website that lists out a variety of jobs (NOT a job search like Monster.com) with their description, salary, general requierments, etc. Thank you.

I search for accounting job and the least I can get is 15usd/hr is being in medical field can give me much higher rate?
Is surgical technology a good field to go into? I am interested in it, but from what I have heard and seen on the internet, the pay is awful! Money certainly isn't the only factor in searching for a career, but I actually make more money now without a degree, than what the salary figures I've seen. What's the deal?

2nd career? Database Administrator or Network Installation? I'm a graphic designer (successful enough) and NEED a career change. Burnt out. I've been soul searching for a new career. One of my problems is I'm really having a problem sitting at a desk for 8+ hours a day. Advertising is a burn out position and I'm capped out salary wise. I'm not looking for a big salary, just want to be excited about what I do again. Soooo. I've been looking at alternatives. Everything from Electrician, HVAC, Surveying but it always comes back full circle to what I'm good at. Computers. DBA or Networking? What are the jobs really like? Potential? Best training? Is it interesting? Networking (Cisco?) appeals to me because it seems like my day would be broken up a bit more? What do you think?

Does anyone know that name of this career website? It was a website that when you type in the search engine like "music" it would give you a list of jobs (not like ones that are available in the area but like actual jobs you could do in general) and then you would click on one like for example "chorus teacher" and then it would give you average salary for that job and most likely hours and reviews by people who are actually a chorus teacher and likes and dislikes about it. Does anyone know the name of this website?? I think it had something like career of job in the name but I've been tryin and nothings cumin up.
Animal related career...help? I'm highly interested in working with animals, but not as a vet. I just can't deal with putting them down. I love animals TOO much to be a vet, if that makes sense.. Even if it sounds selfish, I want a high paying career, seeing as when I'm older, I want lots of animals of my own, including horses, and it all tends to add up. I've pondered many careers, and I've done a lot of searching myself, but I'm still in a bind as to what to do. :[ I've most recently researched veterinary pathologist. While it actually seems interesting and is in demand with a good salary, I live in southern Louisiana and I'm not sure if LA even has a place for a veterinary pathologist! Would I have to move? I love LA, and I'm not so sure I want to move... Gah, I'm asking for so much, but can anybody help me or shed some light on my little problem? Thank you so much! <3
Where do I need to look to find jobs that pay appropriate MBA salaries? I am about to complete my MBA in Finance in March 2008, one month away. My undergrad is in marketing. For all of my professional career I have been in the field of sales (products and services.) Currently I am looking for new career opportunities, however I have not seen the results I want. I currently make $45K plus commission. The companies that are contacting me are offering $40 - $45K. From my research in Fort Worth, TX starting MBA salaries average $70K. The platforms I am using for my career search are individual recruiters, monster.com, careerbuilder.com, and hotjobs.com. My question is what do I need to do or where do I need to look to find more appealing job offers with a salary that fits an MBA grad? Thanks, B
Are CISCO certifications still valuable in industry / Are they worth the money, time and effort? I’m an automotive electronics/diagnostic engineer looking at a career change. I’m looking at Cisco network certifications, and can see on the major job search engines that those certifications command a high salary (not my only motivation). There are a lot of articles cropping up stating that these certifications are worth what they once were and experience is a more valuable asset. I have experience of automotive in-vehicle network protocols, but none of a computer network. Please recommend any other certifications or list your suggestions. Thanks That should be "There are a lot of articles cropping up stating that these certifications aren't worth what they once were and experience is a more valuable asset" I've got an electronics degree which involved tele-comm's theory.
What should i write as salary requirement on application? i just graduated from university with B.S. in Math? Last month I graduated with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I am being asked to write salary requirement on the applications for companies I applied for. One information technology company called me for job interview next week and emailed me an application to fill out and asked me to bring the completed application with me on job interview. I am supposed to write salary requirement on the application. I have searched the internet as to what the starting salary for BS in math for entry level job is and i get conflicting results. Some websites say a different amount as starting salaries while some are completely out of line. Most websites say around mid $40K's an year as starting salary for BS in math with no experience. http://mungowitzend.blogspot.com/2008/04/4-with-bullet.html http://www.collegegrad.com/careers/proft46.shtml#ear However, i'm in very poor financial shape & hardly have any funds left in my bank due to massive debt & recent expenses. should i write $50K? i live in Fairfax County, VA. and the median household income here is $100,318 an year. And its very expensive living. Also i cannot write my previous salary history because those were unskilled jobs with hourly pay rate. This an entry level position which means no experience is required and is related to a bachelor degree. So it does not make sense to write $8 an hour as job history. There is no match between the salary of a Bachelor degree entry level job with no experience and the salary what retail store pays to clerk.

How highly would an Oxford Law degree be seen with regards to employment prospects in the Middle East? I will soon complete a law degree at Oxford and then have plans to seek employment in the Middle East. I already have much family in the region as i am half Lebanese...many of whom work in Qatar and dubai and other small emirates. What employment prospects would i get in such gulf countries with my degree and would it be regarded very hgihly? I have heard that degrees speak volumes in the middle east, and was wondering if anybody had any insights to add. Are the salaries much greater for jobs such as lawyer or investment bankers? I do understand that much of the finaical benefit is felt due to the absence of income tax but what are the differentials in salary? I am just curious about whether to remain in England and search for a job or move out.. I also love the culture and feel it would be a great experience. If it helps, my potential career will almost certainly be either lawyer or investment banker. Thoughts/experiences would be appreciated. Many thanks, Steve
Does anyone have personal experience with the Nurse Corps in the military? I am a senior nursing student in a BSN program in Louisiana. I'm set to graduate in July, and I have been thinking about career options. I am married with an 8 month old. I know that the money is in the private sector, but I feel compelled to serve. I'd like to hear the pros and cons about joining the Nurse Corp (probably Air Force or Navy) from people that have experience with it. Is the salary dramatically reduced? Do the other perks make up for the salary gap? How long is the committment? If anyone has any input, it would be greatly appreciated. I've been doing soul searching, but I'd like some outside perspective... THANKS!!!
Lawyer, Higher Ed Admin, or Human Resources? I just graduated with a bachelors in Public Relations and Marketing. I want to go to grad school, but cannot decided on a degree. I loved college life so I was thinking Higher Education Administration, I also love the law and being specific, so I was thinking lawyer, and finally I am outgoing and love the idea of HR too. I looked into salaries for all 3 positions, job market, and did career searches, but I still cannot decide. Any ideas. suggestions? Anyone with experience in these fields? Thanks for the help! P.S. Sorry for any errors, my Yahoo! Answers is busted somehow, it won't type all letters and spell check is not working.
Why do people belittle my career plans? I am a single 28 year old male and will soon be done with my graduate studies (MA degree). I have decided, with the advice from my parents, that the best way to find a new job would be for me to leave my current job and dedicate my time for the job search. My parents said they will support me financially and otherwise until I find a new job. They will give me a salary (more than I am making at my current job), for doing nothing but looking for a job. This is really great because I live at home and have virtually no expenses and I will still be able to save! I have heard it is easier to get a job when you have a job, but I think that that only matters if you have a family to support or many bills to pay, neither of which apply to me. Anyway, I digress. Why do people, upon hearing this, say I am making a mistake etc? I ask because this situation seems to be affecting the way people see me, particularly women. Because of this I haven't even begun to look for a girlfriend. I digress again. Anyway, if an employer asks what I have done since I quit, I can just say that I have been studying, traveling or doing "consulting" work on the side. It's none of their business in all reality what I have been doing since I quit, as my credentials will speak for themselves. Are my detractors simply jealous?
Management Information System Manager or Physical Therapist? I am a senior about to graduate from high school and like a lot of other graduating seniors I am faced with the dilemma of choosing a major. After alot of research and personal interest searching I have narrowed my decision down to two occupations, management information system manager and physical therapist. I am an excellent English student, a fairly good Math student, and also a fairly good Science study as well (especially in sciences such as anatomy and biology). I enjoy writing, working with people, critical thinking, and helping people as well. In my spare time I like working with computers (I like computers and know alot about them) and working out (working out is a stress reliever for me plus I like staying in shape). The number one thing I am searching for in a career is overall happiness and self-satisfication. Next to that I would like a job with a decent salary ($60,000+) and good working hours. Now the question is which of these careers is more for me?
How to find a home outside of the U.S.? I'm doing a project in one of my classes, and one of the requirements is we find a home based on our careers and salaries. I'm having the worst time with this, because I'm not technical. I'm searching for a home in Italy. I would appreciate it if it were a home in an area that needs English teachers, but at this point, I'll take almost anything. Please help me. -R. Mayer-
Does anyone know what would be the perfect career for me? I've searched all over, and I just can't find anything I could see myself doing for the rest of my life. I'm very intelligent and motivated. My strengths are in Art, Music, English, History, Civics, Science and basically anything that doesn't involve math. I plan to go to college for about six years or so, but I can go for as long as eight. I'm not very good with people so that narrows it down a bit. Also, the higher the salary the better. I'm thinking around 50k or higher. Gotta have my mon-mons. Any help would be GREATLY appriciated!
What is a Molecular biologist? can anyone tell the job description, the training period, the types of employers, and also the starting salary for a Molecular biologist? or if you dont know, can you give me the website for searching careers...

Job candidates who prepare before the interview and adhere to some specific principles during the negotiation will eliminate much of the guesswork in the equation. Before the Interview Know what you want and prioritize what's most important to you in your next role --money, more responsibility, work/life balance, a shorter commute, corporate culture --before you begin interviewing. Use the salary calculator on Yahoo! HotJobs or locate an industry association contact that can provide you with relevant compensation information. This will also help you know that jobs you apply for pay well enough for you. Remember, however, that variables such as company size, economic conditions, and availability of qualified candidates in the market need to be factored into your information-gathering process. When and How to Talk About Money Keep in mind that companies typically have salary ranges budgeted for specific roles within the organization. Exceptions aren't all that common. The only flexible items in a job offer may come down to things other than salary -- a signing bonus, moving up your review date, additional vacation time -- and could be an alternative to a higher salary. Be prepared. You should be ready to convince the recruiter that you are worth the dollar amount at the higher end of the salary range. The easiest way to do this is to provide very specific examples of how you can add value to this organization -- just like you've done throughout your entire career. Be upfront. When asked about your compensation requirements during the initial telephone interview, let the recruiter know where you stand. "I'm looking at opportunities in the $60-70,000 range, but can be flexible for the right opportunity." It's acceptable to ask if you're in the correct range for the position, and important to know so that both parties can make an informed decision about moving forward without wasting time. Remember, the role of the recruiter differs at each organization, so don't underestimate the influence this person has on the decision-making process. Be respectful. If an offer is presented that is lower than what you hoped, thank the presenter. Ask if there is any flexibility in one or two of the areas that you've identified as being a priority for you. Regardless of the answer, always say you need time to consider the offer. Don't start negotiating new terms immediately. Be firm. If there is no flexibility in the offer, you can accept it as is, or politely refuse and walk away. If the company is flexible on your terms, agree on all the new details in one conversation so that you can move forward with the next step in the process -- signing and returning the written offer letter. Above all, be professional. Your actions during the negotiation process will be remembered by everyone involved long after you're hired, and may be helpful when it comes time to ask for a raise. As before, early preparation is the key to success in getting the salary you want and in taking away the feeling that you could be playing "Deal or No Deal." The actress welcomed a girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban, Monday morning. The baby weighed 6 pounds, 7 ounces. "Husband Keith was by Nicole's side and mother and baby are very well," the rep said. It is the first child for Kidman, 41, and Keith Urban, 40. She has two adopted children -- Connor, 13, and Isabella, 15 -- with ex Tom Cruise. Kidman has said she was "yearning" to have a baby with Urban. Early on in her relationship with Cruise, she had suffered a miscarriage. She told July's Vogue that she cried when she saw her ultrasound. "I didn't think I'd get to experience that in my lifetime," she said. "I like the unpredictable nature of it. To feel life growing with you is something very, very special, and I'm going to embrace that completely." The actress said being pregnant "taps into that thing in human nature that is universal and collective and beautiful." Urban shared her enthusiasm. The Oscar-winning actress and her country-star husband welcomed a baby girl on Monday, then named her after the day before. "Earlier this morning Nic gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Sunday Rose Kidman Urban," read the message posted on Urban's Web site. "We want to thank everybody that has kept us in their thoughts and prayers. We feel very blessed and grateful that we can share this joy with all of you today." The first baby for Kidman and Urban, Sunday weighed 6 pounds, 7 1/2 ounces, according to Paul Freundlich, a publicist for the singer. There was no immediate explanation for the name During a concert Saturday in Nashville, Urban said, "I'm going to dedicate a song to my very, very, very, very, very pregnant wife" before singing his hit, "Better Half." Urban, 40, won a Grammy in 2006 for best male country vocal. The couple, who were both raised in Australia, have a home in Nashville. In a recent radio interview in Nashville, Kidman revealed that Urban had been getting hands-on in preparation for the birth by attending Lamaze lessons, saying, "He doesn't know the name (of the classes), but he has been very good at it!"
Job Search? I am a young 50 years old female. My children are now out of the house and I am looking for a job that I can enjoy. I have worked in accounting and sales. My most recent job was selling IT classes but the company disolved. I am presently unemployed but want to find that "perfect job". I have an associates degree in business but I would love a career that involves some travel, negioations, or training. Most employment sites seem to be geared to the young. I am not interested in going back to school to further my education but I am finding it hard to get the interviews with a decend paying job. I dont want to "start at the beginning". My questions are: Any career field suggestions?, Should I hire a resume service to give me a professional edge? What do you think about temp jobs?. I can work alone or as a group but prefer smaller groups. I like to make decisions, take action, dont mind a small salary if commission is large. I dont want insurance or finance or retail sales field.Help!
Why do people belittle my career plans? I am 28 years old and will soon be done with my graduate studies (MA degree). Are they simply jealous?
First Post-MBA job...traditional search or structured program? I have 5+ years of progressive experience in the title insurance/mortgage industry making a sub-par salary (I worked from the bottom up - a lot more responsibiliy with less than stellar raises). I am pursuing an MBA to help me with a career change and increased earning potential. I only have a couple quarters left and am not sure if I would be better off applying for individual positions or if I should apply to company programs meant specifically for recent MBA grads. I am currently working full-time for the university that I am soon to graduate from, making less money than I made straight out of undergrad. I want to make sure that my first job decision out of my MBA program sets me on a strong path.
Would a job with RGIS (inventory auditing) count effectively on resume/future job search in accounting? Will an entry-level position such as an inventory auditor help in the long run with a career in accounting? Could it help attain a higher salary? I am in school to complete my bachelors and would think an employer would be pleased to see related work experience AND completing the degree as an advantage. Any experienced workers in the field, professionals, and/or employer advice would be nice. And which would you advise for entry-level work -- working for RGIS as an inventory auditor OR working for Loomis - cash distribution. Thanks all
Career in Media? Is their any job that is the film making (movie, tv, anything) that has a entry level job and a salary and i can work my way up but still be able to have a successful life in movies and television instead of free lancing and having a job for a little whiile then having to go search for a new one.

This concerns my career and personal life. I am tired and confused. Need honest and sensible advice pls.? I do disaster mgt. including emergency relief, search and rescue etc. Worked during riots, earthquakes, cyclones, flood etc. I luv my work; try to help people in distress. Receiving a smile or a hug from them is the best reward one can get. If and when I do get a chance to revist them, I am received with open arms -much more satisfying than being paid a million dollars. I do however get a good salary. But I'm exposed to dangerous situations - been face to face with death already. I have to be exposed to dangerous situations for prolonged period. This has lately affected my health. I also have a truncated social life; few friends, no girls wanna come close. ! But I luv my work - the challenges, thrills & satisfaction of work well done. This is driving me crazy. Should I change job or prepare myself for the occupational hazard and dedicate my life to work? I'm otherwise a cool guy who can "think" during crisis time. Tell me how can I keep doing my work and have a decent social life?
occupational therapy assistants???? i've searched the salary of a occupational therapist and a occupational therapy assistant....but researching on the internet doesn't always mean....that's the salary the average therapist or assistant make. i know from experience cause of the career i have now. you search one thing and you hear this and when you are actually living it...you don't nearly get paid as much as you thought! i was wondering if anyone knows or is an certified occupational therapy assistant and knows exactly how much they really do make??

Medical Representative / Pharma Sales career opportunity in UAE? Hi Community, I have 9+ years sales experience in pharma industry in India out of which I have worked as a Medical Rep for 6 years and as an Area Manager for 3 years.( 1997 - 2006 ) I have also worked as a Retail Sales Executive in Dubai for 1+year. (2006-2008) My Educational Qualification is B.Sc with Chemistry. What I need to know is, 1. Can I get a job as a Medical Representative in UAE / other Gulf Countries? Do I really need to have a B.Pharm qualification to be a Medical Rep. there? 2. What salary should I expect in Dubai? From my retail experience in Dubai, I understand that I will have to start from scratch in Dubai even if I had 9+ years experience in India. 3. Which are the pharma companies in UAE? How can I apply? Currently I am in India. I have found that job search through webportals are not at all helpful. Thank you, and anticipating your response. Warm Regards, Mustufa.
Career advice- English PhD or credentials? Hello, I'm finishing an MA in English and looking for PhD programs. I definitely want to be a professor in the long run! BUT, the job market is not favorable and it will be nearly impossible to procure a tenure position in the exact location I desire (SoCal.) I have read that the secondary school market in California (and the entire U.S.) is very lucrative, especially with TESOL. (Teaching English to students who aren't native speakers.) Even though the PhD and being a professor can pay far more in the long run, I'm tempted to go ahead and get secondary credentials for California because it would be far easier to find a position. Basically, I can rack up more debt and earn more in the distant future after a potentially long job search, or I can rack up less debt and be employable rather quickly with lower salary. I would consider the credentials a stepping stone to earn the money and experience for a top PhD program. English majors... any thoughts on this plan?

Need Career Advice? Background: I used to work at a brokerage firm making 38K a year but left after 7 months because of issues with my supervisor. My role there was administrative and operational support. So now I have an interview with the clothing retailer, H&M tomorrow for an admin position in their store location. The pay that they can work around is 35K, which is 3K less than what I used to be getting. Ive been unemployed for 2 months because i've been searching for an admin position but lack the experience. Most admin positions i've applied for need 2+ years but I have only about 1-2 years. I have a college degree and for the past 2 months, none of the positions that i've applied for have contact me. I have a good chance of getting this position at H&M because of my past banking experience. Should I give it a shot and negotiate salary? Also, I feel as if accepting this job would be a downgrade because it's at the mall and back to a retail setting. TIA

Does anyone know how or what type of career a graphic designer could transition into? I have 17 years experience as a graphic designer. After being downsized from a very good job 3 years ago, I haven't been able to get anything similar, in experience level, pay or benefits. I am under-employed and way underpaid in an entry level position now. I make half as much as I used to make. I have exhausted my job search-I have done everything. This field has dried up and now has low salaries. What type of job could I transition into with these skills?? I have a BA in art, along with courses in design & graphic design, as well as industry standard software experience. I'm in my early 40's. Any ideas appreciated.

What to do! Please help? I study at SAIT polytechnic, in Business Administration. in 2 weeks, I have to declare my major. I have to choose between Accounting, Financial Services, Marketing and management. I like management but when I searched for info on career path or job description, or salary, I can't find real entry level job in that field. What major should choose then? Is Management with no previous experience or technical skills a good idea? or should I go for one of the other major, and THEN do a management degree or post diploma ... Please helP!
Any websites on Czech culture/Czech women etc..? I am interested in learning about the culture and especially the women. I am a divorced (no kids) 30 year old man from Boston. I am tall and fit & have a good career with very good salary. However, it is exceedingly difficult for me to meet quality women in Boston. I am simply average looking and cannot compete with the other men in the area. Though I make good $ I just can't compete with guys who make 150K, 250K, 400K etc... This place is crawling with guys who make this money. I don't smoke, do drugs or eat junk food and this really makes it hard for me to find women who also don't do drugs/smoke etc..I seemingly don't have anything in common with american women, but have found women from Europe really like me. A number of women from Europe said I should probably move to Europe. Unlike most american men, I never cheated on my girlfriends. I have never just slept around. I am looking for a LTR and do not use women. Any websites you may know of to help me in my search is appreciated.
medical aesthetician? I am searching for a new career path and and am pretty sure I want to persue being a medical aesthetician. I want to do something in the cosmetology/aesthetics field and through my research this seems to be the best paying area. I like the idea of working for a Dermatologist and wonder if there are any medical aestheticians that would like to tell me about how to persue this career. I would also like to know the pros and cons. I am not opposed to starting in a spa setting or such but want to eventually end up on the medical side. I am 30 years old with a bachelors degree in education. Would this make me more marketable? What kind of salary could I expect?
Work for the University? I just graduated with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration and am strongly considering applying for a job with the University as a Regional Admissions Counselor (recruiter). The job has a starting salary (I'm told) of around 30K/year. I'm interested to know if this seems like a good way to start my professional career or if I should continue my never-ending job search? Thanks.

What should I do with my life? Quarter life crisis? I am thinking about a career change once I graduate from graduate school (I am 28). I have been working at my current and first full time job for approx. 2 years. My parents offered to match my salary while I am unemployed if I choose to quit in order to search for a new job. I think this is an opportunity that would be very foolish to pass up. Having some time off from work would be like a nice mini-retirement for me, which I need. I also still live at home and never had a relationship. That's right, not even a first kiss yet. Lol. However, living at home with the family is very common at this age on Long Island. The part about never having a girlfriend is bothering me a llittle though. Will the lack of experience hurt my chances of having a relationship? Is anyone else going through this at the moment?
Can anyone give me some suggestions for this paragraph? Topic is "Why become an accountant?"? Shortly after I enrolled in Hong Kong high school, I resolutely decided to become an accountant in the future. My decision to become an accountant had several considerable reasons. For one reason, becoming an accountant allows me not to do any hard physical work. I will sit in an office, compute and compare data, and provide some advices to the clients. Simultaneously, I can instruct assistant to schedule appointments or search information for me by just calling out on the phone. Wanting to become an accountant, of course, has another reason: high salary. Extracted from Robert Half 2006 Salary Guide, the Canadian average annual salary for an accountant is up to 90,000; moreover, it does not include benefits or bonuses. Most importantly, accountants own more job opportunities than any other career. There is a huge demand for accountants in all businesses, especially small businesses because they commonly have no ability to understand and handle their finances. Once I am dismissed from an accountant job, therefore, I can easily find another job in the accounting positions and do not need to worry about unemployment. Although becoming an accountant benefits me a lot, I know all along that I have to make more efforts from now on in order to successfully become an accountant.
I was offered a job, however, rejected it. Can I ask for the offer back? I was offered a job with a media group in NYC in mid-August. I rejected the offer only because the salary was quite low. I recently graduated college in May '07 and did not know a lot about careers and the real world. I've recently been thinking about asking for the offer back, however, don't know what I should expect. I rejected the offer on good terms, but I think it frustrated the HR rep b/c she thought I was a sure hire (I don't know if they get bonuses based upon # of hires). She told me that may be I should do some "soul searching" and think about it. Its been about 2.5 months. What should I expect? Is it too late? (The position is not closed)
Is Portland the right city for me? (Single/M/24 approaching graduation)? Some background: I am nearing the completion of my Computer Science degree, and as I start thinking about the job search I want to first choose a place to live. To me, my living environment is more important than career. I intend to stay single for the forseeable future, and as such I don't really care about the quality of the schools. 1. I have no intention of owning a car, so both my home and workplace must be easily accessible by safe, reliable public transit (this is something my current home lacks) 2. While I'm reasonably tolerant of crime (I live downtown in a Rust Belt city after all) I would prefer to avoid places I can't walk alone at night. 3. While I'm not worried about having the absolute highest dollar figure for a starting salary, there need to be jobs in my field. 4. I want to live in a proper neighborhood with all the normal amenities within walking distance (groceries, cafes, etc.) So does Portland make the cut, and might Seattle be a better choice?
Will I ever be successful??? Hello I am 30 years old and still don't know what I want to do with my life???!! Out of highschool I could never pinpoint what would make me happy as far as a career. I now make fairly decent money working a salary+commission job but I want to be successful and more financially advanced. How do you finally just figure it out or are some people just doomed to never know?? I've tried all the self searching as well. I feel like owning my own business would be for me but my credit is not that great due to a past marriage and the debt that has affected it. Help??
Pakistani - Immigration to Canada? Hello, I'm sick of Pakistan. Games of lifes, Corruption and no peace is what I hate very much now. I used to be patrotic at the age of 7-14 but now, I'm 15 and I'm hating Pakistan. Even when I hear pakistani songs I don't get goosebumps as I used to get before. There are no international companies supporting pakistan. Especially when it's come to financinal companies such as PayPal or eBay. I'm going to finish my O levels this year and A levels when I reach 18. I'm planning to start searching for a job at the age of 17 and I bet I won't find any good paying salaries like Canada,UK or USA. First of all, I'm Muslim and I'm peace loving man. I hate too much voilence. I would like all of you to help me out what I should do to get a family-immigration visa. My future career would be related to web development(designing and programming), Networking and server administrations. I can speak english, write and hear english easily. Regards, Muhammad Haris
Astronomical Engineering? I’m only a Junior in High School, but I do really well in and enjoy math and have always been interested in a space-oriented career and my dad recommends a career in engineering. I think Astronomical Engineering seems like an ideal career right now, but I would like some more information about it. I’ve searched the internet and now I’m hoping for someone to just have some more information about maybe schooling, salary, and details of what really goes on being an astronomical engineer.
