I was raised on a farm and I love the farming lifestyle, I have 2 young children whom i want to be a stay at home mother to but I need to figure out what I am going to do with the rest of my life and how I am going to make an income.. I don't think looking after children out of my home is a good option for me right now. Why does my college need to know my non-credit internship? I obtained a prestigious internship without any help from my career services center at my university. I am not receiving credit for the internship. Why do they want me to report my internship with salary and hours? What are the benefits of having it on my transcript? I think they just want to add it to some list of students that have good internships, although they did LESS THAN NOTHING to help me find the job, company, posting, ect. ?
Where do I start looking for a job? I graduate in 15 days and used Hotjobs and other websites with no luck.? I sent my resume to over 24 jobs in the Houston area and haven't had one repsonse yet. Where do I start looking? The career services at my university has jobs in the Dallas area only and I don't want to live there, so how do I actively find a job in a city that I do not live in? I work full time now while I am completing my degree and I do not want to leave my current position without finding a new job so I am stuck between a rock and a hard place. Someone please give me some good advise.

Can you help me choose a career? I just graduated highschool with about an 80 average. I want to go to college, not university. I want to do soemthing that will give me a career and not just a job. Here is my criteria: I want to spend less than 4 years if possible in college. I *prefer* to be working outdoors and doing something enjoyable and not tedious and boring. I prefer to be making 80k or more anually. The longer the holidays, the better. I am willing to do some travelling (im in southern canada right now) I do not like designing things or using math or anything technolgical (although I am very good using computers) I like working with my hands... I like making people happy (providing a service to them possibly?) I dont know, Im open for suggestions. Im mainly looking for somethign that I can be proud of doing and make a good living.
What are my chances of landing a good entry level job in the financial services industry? I am a junior at a top 50 US university completing my B.A with a double major (Econ & Telecomm) and a minor (business). My academic background is not stellar and I will probably graduate with a 2.8/2.9 GPA, my major GPA on the other hand should not be too bad, maybe around the 3.3 mark. I aslo have significant work experience since I've worked part time at a managerial position throughout my time at college and would have completed three paid internships in finance by the time i graduate. My problem is that I am a international student and all my internships have been abroad as well.I can't seem to find anyone who can realistically tell me my chances of employment here (as an analyst or smthn similar). I was hoping I could get some insight from ppl who have real world experience with the job market as opposed to career counselors etc. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks
I graduated from college in May 2008 but i am still unemployed even after hunting for job so hard. why? I graduated with bachelor of science in mathematics in May of 2008. I applied at several places for entry level positions that required bachelor degree in math but I never heard back even once. No employer even made the attempt to call me or email me. I went to a lot of job fairs too, but i was turned down at all job fairs because i was told, "you have no professional experience" How can you expect a brand new college graduate to have professional experience in the field of degree? That is not at all fair. And almost all the companies don't want entry level worker with only a bachelor degree. Then what am I supposed to do? I went to my university's career services and followed everything i was advised but it still didn't work. Things like "enhancing resume", "enhancing cover letter" etc etc are not getting me anywhere at all. The problem isn't resume or cover letter. it is something else. I want to know what the real problem is here?
My professional career and foreign trip? I am associated as a Professor in an Agricultural University. I have already passed 21 years in this service with reputation. I am satisfied with my students. Now i am not very much confident in my present career. I apprehend, I may be wrong, that my ability has not been justified.I am facing some troubles in the working place. What would be my professional career? Is there any chanace of changing the profession? Is there any possibility of foreign trip? Because I have been debarred several times
Is a college degree worthless? During the fall of 2001, I graduated from college with a BBA in Marketing. It has been six years and I still haven't found a career. The entire situation has pulled me into a deep depression. I feel like my life has no value, and as much as it pains me to say this, sometimes I get so down I feel like ending my life. The career counselors at my university have reviewed my resume and found nothing wrong with it. I have participated in many mock interviews, receiving positive feedback. The university's career service counselors told me since it has been so long since I graduated, and since I don't have any experience, that my degree is now worthless. That was their exact words. Maybe they are right. Last year I sent out a couple thousand resumes and only received one reply. I had dreams of earning my masters, but those dreams are on hold since I lack the financial resources. I guess I'll just keep plugging away as waiter. Extra details: I could not participate in any internships when I was in school because they were full-time non-paying positions. I was living on my own and couldn't afford to do so. I live in San Antonio and have been submitting resumes to companies in the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro area, Austin, and Houston.
What is the best four-year college for a degree in economics/finance? I'm looking to attend college to redirect my career into financial services/investment banking. What colleges/universities offer excellent financial/economic programs with international exposure, and will also give me networking opportunities? I know that 'school is what you make of it', but I can certainly achieve what I need to and want to make sure that my money is well-spent. I am located in the US, but school overseas is certainly a possibility.
how do I apply for a nursing degree as a mature student with little experience in the caring professions? I've been considering a nursing career for a long time but have little 'care' experience to shout about on my ucas form (ucas is the uk university applications service) and I don't know what my best course of action should really be. I've begun applying for care assistant work but I'd ideally like to do nursing auxillary/assistant work however I understand that it's difficult to even get an interview for most positions going! So are there any student nurses (esp mature students) who can give me a few pointers out there? How did you get into it and what can I do to increase my chances of successful application?? Thanks in advance for your help!
can you help pinpoint my strengths and weaknesses in this letter? How can I improve the letter? I am looking for an opportunity for advancement with a new employer. My background is in retail management and I fell well qualified for the Store Manager position in the Bailey’s West location you advertised on your web site. I would like to be considered as an applicant for the position. The primary advantage I would have as a manager is my heavy educational background. Among the courses I have taken are consumer behavior, retailing, marketing, public relations, and advertising. I am sure you realize the many ways in which these courses can prepare one for a career in sales management. In addition to my classes, my educational background includes work in the university bookstore, service on the school yearbook, and president of my fraternity. I will be receiving my degree on May 5, 2004. I will appreciate you studying the résumé which you will find inclosed. If you can use an energetic young man with my educational background as I hope, will you grant me an interview.
Why are so many of our future skilled tradesmen and women expected to spend three years at University? Should the UK Government now revert back to an education system that strongly encourages apprenticeships in engineering, design and the utility services eg plumbing, rather than encouraging everyone to study for a degree at Uni.? Many graduates are now discovering that an academic qualification is no longer a key to a successful career. Instead, trade qualifications can provide life long career development, and often big earnings as well as positions on the Board of Directors. Perhaps it might be the start of a new Industrial Revolution here, with far less service industry, and much more engineering development and production. What do you think in the UK? Does this situation exist in the USA? Apologies for the big question!!

Can anyone give me info about Baylor University (or other Texas schools)? I'm currently a senior in high school, and I'm planning on majoring in English in order to get a career in postsecondary education. (I want to get a Ph.D. and eventually become an English professor.) Using my high school's grading system, my A.P. weighted G.P.A. is now a 101.48, I got a 1950 on my SAT (Critical Reading, Math, and Writing), I'm highly involved in plenty of extra-curricular activities and I partake in loads of community service. I also take all of my core courses under the A.P. Program and will be graduating under the Distinguished Achievement Program as 4th in my class out of 468. As of now, I'm interested in Baylor University, but other schools including Rice, U.T., and A&M are all considerations as well. So, all of this being said, does anyone have ANY advice for me as to where I should go? Thanks so much!
CV writing services- good move or bad move? I am considering getting a CV done via a professional cv writing service. However, when i went to the careers centre at my university, i was advised against it. Is it such a bad thing to be letting other people write a CV for me. Im really struggling with writing the CV myself, and i am a graduate with hardly any work experience. Should i go for it or not?
I HATE MY JOB! What is the best small biz for me to start, to work for myself? Ok, so I graduated in 2001 from Johnson & Wales University in Food Service Management. I've been in foodservice in one reguard or another, whether it be waitressing, bartending and now management at a hospital cafeteria. I have only been a Supervisor now for 4 months and absolutely HATE IT! I think about not going in, like every day... But my family and fiance are so proud of me for getting the job and getting the great benefits. Now, I can't even switch my job until 6 months is up, and even then I'm not guaranteed that there will be a good position that pays similarly to what I currently make. I've thought about going back to school, either Medical Assisting or Nursing working in Dermatology or for a Plastic Surgeon. But I'm so confused... Ultimately I would love to start my own small business. Does anyone have any advice or information on what the next best small biz to open, would be??? I feel like I lack focus and can't figure out what career to concentrate on... HELP!

Online courses in human services? I am looking for an online course for a degree to become a social worker. I want to find one that is a shorter term course then the rest, I know some programs you can finish at your own pace. Also low priced by an established school as well. I do not know much about programs offered and such because the university sites won't let me view that kind of information without giving them all my information first. I also wanted to know what other careers you could have after taking the human services class? Thanks!
What does the career service center do? My university has a career service center do? I don't want to walk in and look stupid going in and trying to find a job and they are not answering my e-mails. Would a career in the Foreign Service be correct for me? I am currenty 17 years old and a senior in high school. Next year I'm going to university to study Business Administration with an emphasis in International Business. And as I been doing research into possible career paths, I am seriously considering aiming to join the US Foreign Service. I heard it's very difficult to get in and the pay is very modest. I am just kind of torn on what I want to do, but I realize i have a lot of time to decide. Yes, one of my life goals is to accumlate wealth in my life and be generally well off but I equally want to work abroad and serve my country. So my questions are the following: A. I speak Farsi fluently (it is listed as super critical need language), how much will that help me in the FS? B. If I get accepted and accept the job, what sort of commitments do I have? For instance can I leave 8 years after to go work in the private sector? C. (off topic) Is it likely that I can find a job similar to FS work in the private sector (work abroad)? Thanks!
assessing my career? I've been working at a publishing company for 4 years now. If you ask me what my role is, I sometimes dont even know. I started out in customer service, then moved into the Higher Education dept. I work in higher ed sales with the marketing dept and product group. I basically provide support...but i feel like it's so much more than that. I've gotten sales experience, i've gotten product/marketing experience, customer service experience, IT/tech experience, ive gotten event planning experience, experience with our finance dept. Yet i still feel sort of like, where do i fit in? When someone asks me, what do you do there? It's just so complicated. My title is sales coordinator. I'm in school for a masters in communications management. I'm worried about where my career is going. I want to make more money, but i only make 44k. I wonder if ill just need to switch companies? I work at a publishing place for a university in boston
What to wear to our alumni dinner on a budget? DH and I will be attending an alumni dinner in three weeks for the college he graduated from and I formerly attended. It will be in the Dallas/Fort Worth area at an upper-scale Mexican grill. Having only seen our alums during formal events on campus, I have no idea what to wear to this dinner, and would like to spend as little money as possible. I am 23. I already have: 1. Green paisley v-neck dress with fluttery sleeves. Looks very nice on me, but needs something, like a belt. What belt styles are in for this spring? Length needs heels; what type of heeled sandals? 2. Black pencil skirt and cute heels, but no spring/summer tops to go with it. 3. A tan, almost tweed-looking cotton suit. It is more of a fall style. Do not have appropriate shoes to go with it. Things I could get: 1. Assuming they have one in my size, the Career Services Office at my university gives away free suits for interviews. Your suggestions will be welcome. Thanks!
Can I get into Michigan State University? I have a 3.22 GPA, a 23 ACT (retook it though and results are pending), I have taken several honors courses thoughout my high school career, and a very strong college prep curriculm. I am a Varsity Wrestling Captain, I ran Cross Country, I have an internship with a University of Michigan Dearborn professor, I have recommendations from several people in the Michigan House of Representatives, I have a good counselor recommendation, I also have 40 hours of community service, and I was also on Student Council freshmen year. I go to one of the best private high schools in Michigan. I also plan to write a good essay. So what do you think. Another important factor is my dad is in the House of Representatives, so he has a strong say in how much money universities get from the government. Also he has met all the president of every university in michigan. So do you think I have a good shot at getting into Michigan State?
Will I Be a Honest Contestant for these Colleges? Hey, I'm applying for college, and I've been working hard for the past few years. I'm looking to get in John Hopkins University, Stanford, or UCLA. I have many backups, but those are the main ones. I am a California student wishing to pursue a medical career. Community Service Hours: 150 Sports: Track and Field (2 years JV 2 years varsity) Crosscountry (1 year JV, 2 years varsity) Clubs: Speech and Debate (3 years) Various Community Service Clubs (3 years) GPA: 4.0, weighted 4.41 SAT: 2110 SAT 2: Bio (730) Chem (700) Physics (630) Math 2 (750) Spanish (680) US History (710) Grades: 9th grade (honors track, 4.0) 10th grade (honors track, 4.0) 11th grade (spanish 4, ap bio, ap chem, apush, honors precalc, honors english, 4.83) 12th grade (all ap: english, physics, spanish, eco/govt, calc, anatomy and physiology) Some extras: I've volunteered at a hospital, played the game "Counter Strike" for over 6 years, and I was fortunate enough to travel around the west coast to compete in competitions for prizes. I was in a 5 man team, and we went to these tournaments together almost like family. I think this makes me unique, not many people meet 4 people over the internet and start a team that lasted for over 3 years. We've also achieved a lot of success ( though I've quit now.) Also, I took drama, AP stats, and AP psychology over the various summers. I got A, A, B on those courses, respectively.

Career/Job Fair in Michigan, how effective is this in obtaining employment? Hello, I'm currently a student at a local university working on my B.A. My graduation date is December 2007, and I am majoring in Anthropology. I have just currently lost my job which was totally unprofessional, but still I do need income. My major is broad and I am interested in the social services perhaps non-profit and rehabilitation in particular but I am open. Is going to a job fair in particular the one in Oakland County, the diversity fair in Troy today even going to be worth the hour drive for me? I know the answer is up in the air but how much success have others had with their experience with job fairs? In Michigan? and with a degree in liberal arts, like anthropology? Thanks!

Though I understand life science and its concepts very well , and I do perform well in practicals, I'm not confident that I can progress in research field. My lecturers tell me do M.Sc. in Biochemistry and I really love the subject, but that will involve research too, and like I said I'm not confident enough. My favorite subjects include biology, mathematics and english. I also love social services and would love to work in an NGO some day. So, please help me sir/ma'am. My Career...? I work at a publishing place for a university in boston yeah, i mean one would think that having experience in a few depts would be a good thing...guess not.
Boston University? I was wondering what my chances were of geting into Boston University. I am currently a junior with a 3.6 GPA. I have taken French 2 and 3, and Chinese 1. I am currently in Pre-Calculus and will be taking AP Calculus AB next year. I have been in honors English and honors History classes and will be in AP English next year. I want to be a psychology major and will be doing an internship through school at a local hospital next year. I also am in a health/medical program of my school which consists of two years worth of health related electives. This year I took health and career planning, and next year I will be taking sociology. I will also be taking AP psychology next year. I have done about 100 hours of community service, and producing a good essay should not be a problem. I live in California, and I am the first person in my family that will be attending college. I got a 1770 on my SATs and will be taking the SAT II next fall. Any advice
Career advice? I'm studying accounting at a local university but I hate everything about accounting. I get low grades because I can't stand the work I do and I half-a$$ all my homework. I don't really understand alot of the material and I'm not sure I would apply myself much in this career. I am seriously thinking about switching majors to criminal justice. A friend of mine told me that you can't get any good jobs with criminal justice. I don't want to do something I hate (accounting) but I also don't want to get a degree I can't use (criminal justice) I also have military service (Marine Corps) which would help in getting a criminal justice type of job. Any advice?
Politics type courses at university...? People that have done Politics related courses at uni: What have you got out of the course? Was the course good? In particular, Politics at Manchester Uni, if you have done any course there, how did you find it? Is it likely that one of these courses may actually leed to a career in Politics or Journalism/news, or is it more likely I would end up working in the Civil Service etc.? The courses I am considering are the following (Mainly Politics and International Relations): http://www.manchester.ac.uk/undergraduate/courses/search/bysubject/?index=GV Although a Politics related course sounds good to do, is it no more useful for good job prospects as say, a Sociology degree, as it may seem pretty general..? Just any info on what I've mentioned plus any on Manchester University would be good. Thanks.
So do you think I have a good shot at getting into Michigan State?

"MBA specialization" career query. Click for question please!? I am a student at a US university, currently pursuing B.Sc in Business in Marketing (final year, nearing completion) and would like to pursue my MBA from Canada. Would you suggest I specialize in the "same field" that I'm going to graduate from (namely, Marketing) or maybe otherwise go for an alternative specialization to make my career base more versatile-looking!?! Does "specialization" rule over "versatility" or vice versa? Or is it all on location-dependent? I intend to work in Canada for a while & then mainly set myself up in/around the Middle East. Do you suggest I go for: 1. a General MBA 2. MBA in Marketing (just like my Bachelor degree specialization) 3. MBA in other field of my choice/preferences/market demand - I do love the aviation world, and wouldn't mind managing at some airport level/position, or marketing any airport-related / airplane-related product(s) or service(s), etc. Hence, suggesting that I go for MBA in Flight & Aviation Management? Please enlighten me! You suggestion, Brian, is to go with the MBA and let my work exp. do the rest? When you say, go with the MBA - what MBA are you really referring to? 1, 2 or 3? I got your point, but if you were in my shoes, what do you think you would at this stage, gone on for (maybe envisaging a little ahead too, as mentioned above).

What can i do for a career? Hi ,Im in my senior years of High School with little idea as to what i am going to do for a career once i finish school(i am going to finish). i am an average student with the same old talents, i was thinking about going to university to study buisness but the thought of sitting behind a desk for the rest of my life dosent appeal to me, a trade at the other end of the scale also dosent appeal to much. i was looking at the fire fighting service yet it seams a lot of hard work with an unpridictable out come as in the state i live in only 50-70 firefighters are given jobs a year. sorry this is so long but i need something quick.i would like a job in the middle i spose. thanks

If you could have your pick of any career, what would you choose to be? Here are just a few choices, and you may have others. 1. Pope 2. Chief of State (pick your country) 3. Chief of Staff of your preferred military service (CNO for the Navy types, Commandant for Marines.) 4. Famous Author 5. Movie Star 6. Rock Star 7. Network Television Anchor 8. Master Chef 9. Talk Radio Host 10. Railroad engineer 11. Airline pilot 12. Captain of a Cruise Ship 13. Medical Doctor 14. University Professor 15. Attorney 16. Anthropologist 17. Astronaut 18. Soldier (any rank) 19. Sailor (any rank) 20. Marine (any rank) 21. Airman (any rank) 22. Other Military (any rank) 23. Foreign Service 24. Social Worker 25. Construction Worker 26. Forest or Park Ranger 27. Policeman 28. Fireman 29. Newspaper editor, reporter or columnist (specify) 30. Lifetime Student Note that I have not listed any illegal occupations or careers. If you don't want to be the Pope but would like to be a clergy person that choice is open. So is just about every other. I have also not revealed MY choice. I'll save that for when I close this question. (It is on the list.) I really like Renaissance Man's answer. There are many others I like as well. To early to choose the best, but will try to do that tomorrow. Bijou, I admire your idealism. If I could grant your wish I would. I see some really cool ideas here and I like every answer so far.
Michele Obama is better than Hillary Clinton. Hillary had her chance at the white house she screwed up!!? Michelle was born on January 17, 1964, to Marian and Fraser Robinson on Chicago's South Side and graduated from Whitney M. Young Magnet High School in Chicago's West Loop. After high school Michelle went on to Princeton University where in 1985 she graduated with a B.A. in sociology and a minor in African American studies. MBA program between AGSM - by UNSW and MBS - by Uni of Melb? I've been accepted by AGSM for their Jan 08 intake and MBS for their Sept 07 intake. I'm pretty confused to choose which program to fit me. I've been talked to several MBS alumni. Yet I haven't found AGSM alumni to weight both program properly. In term responsiveness, MBS is better. I've been offered a seat a week after I submitted the application. They also always answer my queries promptly. I'm impressed with their quick response and keen support, and also lots of praises for their career services led by Michael Toohey. Whilst AGSM, offered me Sydney experience and the sentimentil fact that UNSW is my husband former university. I've been living at Sydney before, for almost 2 years. Furthermore I love strolling the beaches. Amidst my confusion, I went to IDP to ask their opinion and they said that both schools are equally but both schools locates in 2 different cities so depend on which city you prefer to live with (Melbourne/Sydney). So your view is very much appreciated.
Is a career in the Armed Forces a good choice? need some advice on being in the armed forces today. i am considering joining one of the services as i leave school in July. My family have mixed emotions. My father was a Commander in the Submarine service up until 1995 and served aboard HMS Courageous and later HMS Swiftsure. He now works for BAE systems but wants me to continue the tradition (my grandfather was also in the navy) but says the world is becoming more dangerous than when he was at sea - he just chased Russians apparently. I would love to be a RM but understand the training is hard and that they probably have the most dangerous jobs of all in Iraq and Afghanistan. My mum is not keen at all - she says she was always so worried about my dad when he was away - you don't really hear from people in submarines. She, like the rest of my family, would like me to go to university - I have applied and have offers for biomedical sciences at several good unis. so I’m a little stuck and would value your opinions (americans too) *EDIT* that first sentance should say " I need..." Dan: i too admit that BAE systems - the worlds second largest defence company - are hardly a model of morality and ethics but what defence companies are?
Confused, please help? I am in year 12 at the moment doing my hsc. I want to become a teacher from kindergarden to year 6, But i'm not sure what score i need in my uai in order to go to university (UWS), a career advisor told me i can do a diploma of children services at tafe & then i will get into a bachelors of early childhood through uni, i;m not sure if that's for teaching though, 1 of my sisters friends does a bachelors of teaching at uni & she didn't do a bachelors of early childhood or children services, so maybe the career advisor isn't telling me the truth, i really want this & i don't want to waste 4 years doing something that i don't need, also i'm not sure if i'll get a good score in my uai so i am thinking of going to tafe next year and making my uai up to the score i need, so will someone please tell me what score you need for a bachelors of teaching through uni? and if dimploma of children services & bachelors of early childhood is anything relating to teaching, please let me know ?? p.s I live in sydney australia

Is a Masters in Education from the University of Phoenix a worthy degree program for an aspiring teacher? I’m currently an officer in the military with a BA in History from a Big-10 school. I’m able to retire from the service in five years. For continued progression in my current career, I must attain a graduate degree. I have many options how to do so while still in the service. The military will pay for most of my tuition, but I can’t take a leave of absence for a few years to complete a traditional graduate program. There are several on-line programs from places like Webster’s and Norwich. There are satellite programs at many bases throughout the world through the U of Oklahoma, Embry Riddle, U of Phoenix, U of Maryland, etc… While I could simply complete any grad degree for career advancement, I want something that has relevancy for what I want to do for a second life. I hope to teach high school or college as a second career. Are there teachers out there that can advise me on how graduate degrees from the U of Phoenix are looked upon in your profession?
Family vs. career? Am I being selfish? I have been dating a wonderful man for almost 2 yrs. I am 30 & he is almost 29. I have 2 beautiful kids from a prior relationship ages 9 & 11. My bf has a passion to fly commercial planes. About a year ago, he signed up with the Canadian Armed Forces & he's still waiting to hear if he's been accepted. Problem is, he must obtain a university degree (he only has a college degree) before he is allowed to join the air force. So he left a very good job working as a computer IT @ our city hall office to go back to university this fall. He has approx. 2 1/2 more yrs before he obtains his degree. Once he has his degree, he must train for 2 yrs with the air force to obtain his commercial pilot's license. He then owes them 7 years of service in return. I have told him that I love him enough to stand by his side & wait for him but he of course would like to have a family - probably in another 5 years, once he's done his schooling & training. I have told him "No way". I have said "NO" because: 1. I will be 35 + yrs old. 2. My children will be nearing graduation, so I'm not sure if I want to start another family. 3. I told him that he must choose between family or his passion to fly. I refuse to raise any more children by myself (been there already) and that if we have children, he needs to put us first. He is unable to do this while he would be serving with the air force.
What is career center exactly or where can I find out more about the fields I am interested in? I am in high school and still unsure of the future. I don't think my councilor is any guidance because whenever I ask questions about service like volunteering in a hospital, he says he doesn't know. I like science and math and I think I want to try to be around the medical environment but I don't know where to start. I live near this university and I was thinking of going there to look for guidance. I also know someone from another university who helps with some science research and I wonder if it's possible for a student like me to participate. Where can I find my possibilities and where do I start?!?! I feel so lost.....
have you always known what career you wanted?? I've never known what I wanted to do when I grew up. Then I decided I wanted to be a midwife, got into university and realised that I couldn't stomach it. I've had quite a few jobs in customer service and retail but its rubbish. Now Im totally confused, I dont wanna be stuck in a dead end job but I dont want to go to university be skint for 4 years and then get into £30,000 of debt. When I meet new people I always ask what they do for a living so I can get ideas for myself. So what do you do if you dont have a clue what you want to do?
What are my chances of getting into UC Berkeley and University of Southern California? I have a 4.24 total gpa... 4.33 for the UC gpa (I'm a senior) My SAT scores are 1820... i know not very high. (740 in math though) My Sat 2 scores are M2(670) chem(560) :( I've done cross country(MVP and coach's award) and track Jazz Band (A Period), Marching Band, symphonic band Been in Mock Trial, Science Club, Science Olympiad, Science Bowl where i've won various awards. Been in Key Club where i've done community service(50+hours) and I am also in my schools Robotics Team. I work for JKB Homes where i spin the sign... I'm been in CSF for all 4 years. I also play for my Church's orchestra every sunday and go to practice every thursday. Got a 3 on the AP Chem and English Language Tests. I've also taken a college class at the nearest Junior college where I recieved an A in History 101. I've gotten 4 B's during my whole high school career. I've taken 7 AP classes. Career Guidance Required!? I am going to be 20yrs old on this 25 Aug. Immediately after 12th I got selected in National Defence Academy (NAVY) and joined Naval Academy, Goa. During my training period, I got injured for which I was operated and am being boarded out of service now. I have already spent 2yrs there. In my 12th standard, I secured a rank of 1179(AIR) in IIT screening but didn't clear the mains. I also appeared in AIEEE and got a HP state rank of 300. Now in another few months, I will be out of Academy, with a certificate of completion of 1-year of B.Sc. (Naval Science) from Goa University. What should I do? My life is hanging over a cliff. Please guide me. Hoping for an immediate response.
Investment Banking career at 27? I am 25years old and just graduated with a 2.1 in mechanical engineering. I spent 2.5years in the military due to the required service period in my country. I'm now pursuing my CFA level 1 and would be going to the University of Sydney in February 2008 to pursue a Masters of Commerce. When I complete my masters I would be 27 years old, would that make me too old for the graduate programs?
Which would you choose - Family or career? My bf & I have been dating for 2 yrs. I'm 30 & he's 29. I have 2 kids from a previous relationship ages 10 & 11. We both want to get married. Problem - He wants to be a commercial pilot by joining the air force AND he wants a family later. In order to join the air force he must finish his degree which will take another 2 1/2 yrs. Then he must train with the air force for 2 yrs. He then owes them 7 yrs of service. In total, it will take over a decade to complete all training & service. I have told him I will wait for him but that then I didn't want more children as I don't want kids at age 35+ (My own kids will have graduated already). Nor do I want to raise kids on my own - been there done that. He could obtain his pilot's licence on his own but it would cost $40,000+. Also, he wouldn't be able to afford both a university degree (a great back-up plan) & also finance his pilot's licence. The air force wants an answer as to whether he will join (he's already been accepted. He doesn't want to make a choice that he will regret later in life. He already put off joining the air force because his last gf didn't want him to join. But at the same time, I'm not getting any younger. What is a reasonable choice? To make it very clear to others - I can live without having more children as I already have 2 of my own. It's my bf that would like to eventually have children of his own. I am willing to have more children, but only if we start our family soon (in the next couple of years) & if we do it together. I don't want to be left at home raising more kids by myself while he chases his dream career. Kids are 50/50.
Is USC a good university? I am deciding if I want to pursue a career in dentistry. I search online and it said that USC offer a major in dentistry. But--the tuition for USC is about 35,000 and thats a lot and plus I don't know if my parents can afford it even if I do have support of financial aid. I saw that to get in USC is an average GPA of 3.71 and I only have a 3.41 GPA now. I am a junior now in high school. Do I still have a possibility of getting in USC? I also will do more community service, join clubs, and sports between this year and next year. Ok, well give me some advice! Thanks everyone :) My ACT score is 19 but I know that it isn't a good score. That's why I am going to retake in June. My ACT score is 19 but I know that it isn't a good score. Diane Reeves of Lakewood, who planned the protest for Aug. 25 at the town square on Clifton Avenue, pointed to rumors that such gangs as MS 13 and the Latin Kings, as well as some out-of-town militant groups, would disrupt the rally. That, coupled with the conflict that occurred at a similar protest last month in Morristown, convinced Reeves that the handful of officers Police Chief Robert Lawson promised to provide would not be enough protection. "I was nervous that if something happened, what were we supposed to do?" Reeves said. She and other rally supporters voiced resentment that the township had not agreed to assign more members of its 125-strong police force. They pointed to Morristown, which supplied a strong police presence at the protest over the same issue in late July. Five people were ar-rested and two were slightly injured at that event. "I was very upset when I heard," said Carmen Morales, vice chairwoman of the advocacy group You Don't Speak For Me, who was supposed to speak at the rally. "I feel Lakewood is like a sanctuary for illegal immigrants . . . and (the police) seem to protect them." Officials relieved Mayor Raymond Coles stressed that the Morristown rally was municipally sponsored, as opposed to the privately organized one in Lakewood. Lawson said he could not justify taking more officers off patrol duty, and the township could not afford the overtime. Beyond that, Coles and Lawson agreed with Reeves' decision to cancel. "I'm relieved," Lawson said. "Lakewood has a large number of undocumented residents . . . and now you're going to have a group in the center of town speaking out against illegal aliens. So it's possible there'd be friction between the two factions that could lead to confrontation." Coles said, "This is a very emotional, heated issue and bringing two very emotional groups together might cause problems." Estimates of the number of illegal immigrants in Lakewood range from 5,000 to 20,000. A 2006 estimate by the U.S. Census bureau put the township's population at almost 70,000. Lawson added that it was common for organizers to pay for off-duty police officers as protection at rallies. The Lakewood rally was expected to draw up to 500 people and was to have five speakers, including two family members of victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks. Reeves, who has never organized a rally before, now plans to find an indoor venue in another town to hold the protest, saying that since the cancellation she has heard from angry supporters offering contributions toward the cost of a demonstration. "Look at the 100,000 illegals getting protection to march down the street everywhere else," she said. "But me, a citizen, has no right because of safety issues." do you know what your corporate zodiac is? astrology tells us about people and their future by their time, date and location of birth. the Chinese zodiac uses the year of a persons birth. demographics tells us what others like, dislike. who they voted for, as well as what they buy and what they watch on television. the corporate zodiac goes a step further: simply by an individuals job title, people can pretty much learn about an employees hidden personality traits MARKETING you are ambitious, yet stupid. you chose a marketing degree to avoid having to actually study in university, concentrating instead on drinking and socializing-which is pretty much what your job responsibilities are now. least compatible with sales SALES laziest of all the corporate signs, often referred to as a 'marketer without a degree'. you are also self centered and paranoid. unless someone calls you and begs you to take their money, you like to avoid all contact with customers so you can 'concentrate on the big picture'. you seek admiration for your golf game, clothes, car and sex appeal throughout your career CUSTOMER SERVICE Bright, cheery and positive, you are a 50 cent taxi ride from taking your own life. As a child very few of you asked your parents for a little cubicle for your room and a headset so you could pretend to play ‘customer service’. Continually passed over for promotions, your best bet is to sleep with your manager TECHNOLOGY Unable to control anything in your personal life, you are instead content to completely control everything that happens at your workplace Typically you went to trade school because you didn’t have time for all that ‘crap’ required in university. Often, even you don’t understand what the hell you’re saying. But no one else except the engineers knows anyway. It is written that the geeks shall inherit the earth, but the senior managers keep contesting the will ENGINEERING One of only signs that actually studied in school, it is said that 60% of all people on the Internet are either engineers, or wish they were. You can be happy with yourself and the latest technology in you field. Your office is typically full of the latest gadgets, catalogues and half finished spec sheets ACCOUNTING The only other sign that studied in school, you are mostly immune from office politics. You are the most feared person in the organization; combined with your extreme organizational traits, the majority of your co-workers are convinced that you are completely without feeling or emotion. You are often caught in the bathroom, practicing your frown in the mirror HUMAN RESOURCES Ironically, given your access to confidential information, you tend to be the biggest gossip in the company. Possibly the only other person that does less work than marketing, you are unable to return any calls today because you have to get a haircut, have lunch, and mail a letter! Your favorite expression is ‘now don’t say anything but…’ MID LEVEL MANAGERS/DEPARTMENT HEADS/TEAM LEADERS Cut throat and ambitious, but you are destined to remain in your current job forever unless a senior manager dies or retires. You measure your worth by the number of meetings you can schedule for yourself and the number of subordinates you sleep with. Best suited to marry other middle managers, as everyone in your social circle must be at least a middle manager for appearance sake SENIOR MANAGERS You enjoy appearing to be the ultimate authority figure but actually, you are completely spineless, and determined to remain in your current job for the rest of your life, unless the head of your organization dies or retires. Unable to make a single decision, you pretend to measure your worth by the number of mid level managers you can harass on any given day and ensure that your office is the largest in the building. best suited to date/marry other senior managers, as everyone in your social circle is a senior manager; besides, no one else would have you anyway
I graduated with an unclassifed degree about 15 years ago..? The reason why it was unclassified is because I failed the dissertation, and obviously encountered problems when trying to find a graduate job, because employers usually look for at least a 2:2. However, after spending about 10 years in the working world doing administration, customer service and credit control jobs, I feel that I need to go back to university in order to get a post graduate degree to progress further with my career. However, upon querying about the courses available at my local university, the careers adviser informed me that I have not even passed my 1st degree since it was unclassified and that I cannot possibly do a post graduate course! Can you please tell me if an unclassified degree means that I have failed my degree entirely and that I need to complete the dissertation stage again in order to do a post graduate course, or can I do a post graduate diploma without having to do back to complete my 'honours' part of the degree.
working in Congress? Hello everyone I am hoping to make a career in public service. It is my plan to work in either the Senate or the House of Representatives. When I was 18, I was arrested for possession of cocaine (less than 1 gram) and resisting arrest. No jail time, 18 months probation. 10 years later.... I am clean as a whistle. I graduated top of my class at a very respected university in the mid-west. performed countless hours in the community volunteering. and recently, I paid a high price attorney to seal (not expunge) my record. So my question is this: will having once been convicted of a felony prevent me from working in government?
Careers Advice in Nursing? My Daughter is currently in her final year at school studying A levels. She wants to pursue a career in Nursing in the UK. Does anyone know of an organisation that can give clear advice on which Universities/Courses she should consider. As a parent I am finding it very difficult to advise her because the choices are quite bewildering and I can't seem to find a careers advice service anywhere. I just want to sit down with someone, face-to-face and have the various options explained to me and my Daughter. Thanks in advance.
