How can I find career counseling/advice??? I am in the process of my first real job search since graduating college, and it's a nightmare. I don't even know where to start and I feel like I'm not getting anywhere. Is there some kind of service that offers career counseling and assistance with trying to find a job? I have a Bachelor's in Liberal Studies and also was a Peace Corps volunteer for two years. Still, everytime I try to find a job I feel like I'm just not qualified for anything. Does anyone have advice on what my next step should be?
I am looking for a career counselor/agent.? I have been a school speech-language pathologist for ten years, and am desperately wanting to change careers. I am looking for career counseling services or a career "agency" (if such a thing exists). Any suggestions? I want to find some place that will give me a personal, specific approach.
Where is Career counseling center in Pakistan? I need career counseling. According to my information and research you can get this service after admission in university. I want this service before admission. Is there is any other way for career counseling like online that accept payment in money order/draft or any intuition that provide this service in Pakistan?
Career Counselor? Hi, Does anyone know where I can get a free career counseling service or even an affordable one? Preferably online but it doesn’t have to be. I am considering a career change and I need to discuss my future plans with a career professional. Focusing on Human Resource Management questions. I know they have at least one at every high school and college but I don't go to school at the moment. Thank you in advance.

My ultimate goal after i recieve my bachelor's degree is to obtain a certificate in substance abuse counseling, but im having a hard time to decide which program to pursue, rehabilitation, human services or psychology? Counselling Skills for Human Services certificate..............career ideas? I have this certificate (I live in Ontario) and I have not been able to find any jobs that only require this specific certificate. For example, if I apply at a group home, schools or shelters, I get told that I need my Social Worker diploma or CYW diploma or so forth. It's not like I am applying to be a social worker or anything but it seems like now to get a job in the community services field you have to have a specialized diploma. I am starting to wonder why colleges even offer this program if no one hires ppl with the cert. Does anyone have any idea what jobs I do qualify for or was this a wasted certificate for me?
How useful is a graduate certificate when trying to advance in a company? I am hoping to get mine in career counseling, in addition to my M.Ed in College Student Affairs, but am wondering if some institutions may just prefer experience in it? I currently work in Student Activities, but won't have much of an opportunity to work in career services unless I volunteer outside of work hours.
What do people think about a career as a careers guidance counsellor for young people? I'm thinking about a career in careers guidance counselling (in England) which I know now falls under the Connexions service. I was just wondering what people thought about it as a career. Is it rewarding? Having already worked in social services I am aware of the difficult people that you deal with but what I want to know do you feel as though you're making a difference and is it worthwhile?
Where can I find effective career counseling and therapy? I am the only young male in my household. My father is there but he's on a whole different mentality. I am 23 years old. I live with my mother, father, sister, and nephew. I get the urge to finally move out but money is short. I miserably work as a floating patient service rep in a clinic. I am working part time because of frequent complaints I got on my job, which has lowered my self-confidence and self-esteem. I could continue full time, but I would only be putting myself more into a job I don't even enjoy or that I am not really good at. Basically, at least I am aware that I am not much a people person or the type that is blessed to effectively deal with people, which the medical field involves. I already have a degree in English, but I dread teaching. I like to write but lost some confidence in that as well. Sometimes I feel that I can't be understood. I think here are certain things that only guys could understand amongst each other. My older brother lives in Florida.
Switching Careers (Social Work, Advisory Services, Counselling)? I'm looking for inroads into social work, advisory services and counselling positions. I've spent 18 years working in customer based positions, to the point where i am qualified to provide sales team training, consultancy and mentoring. However i feel (and have taken extensive advice on this) that i would get more, on a personal level, out of a social / advisory / counselling role. Which would use many of the existing 'people skills' i have developed along the way. I am currently undergoing retraining: Open degree in social work. But i would like to secure an entry / intermidiate level position in this line of work. Can anybody suggest an organisation that would consider such a placement on a full or part-time basis (paid work). John.

How would you look for career fulfillment? Have you become bored with your current job or career and wish you could do something else that's a bit more fulfilling, but you don't know what else would give you satisfaction? If so: 1. What has been preventing you from doing something about your job or career situation? (economics, fear, don't know where to start, etc.) 2. What type of tool or strategy would help you identify your career options? Would you look to a product (book, CD, etc.), or would you prefer a service (coaching, counselling, etc.) to help you? 3. If so, what specifically would you want or expect from that product or service? (motivation, exercises, stories, etc.) 4. Would you prefer a product or service from someone who has lived through the pain of an unsatisfying career and has now found fulfillment, or would you rather hear from a qualified practitioner? 5. And what type of approach would you want (spiritual, practical, or a bit of both)?

Resume advice for career change ? I currently work in financial services, but am seeking a position in school counseling (having recently completed the required education for such a role) Any suggestions about how to make an effective resume that reflects my experience and skills but makes it seem more relevant to the position I'm seeking?
Is this okay so far? Job outlook- I would really enjoy being a Social Worker. Social Workers are under the “Human Services” career cluster. Social Workers counsel individual and family members regarding public resources, financial assistance, vocational training, and child and medical care. Social workers also investigate home conditions to determine suitability of a foster or adoptive home, or to protect children from a harmful environment. You need at least a BSW or a Bachelor Degree in Social Work to become a Social Worker. While in college you will need to take classes in social work, juvenile corrections, and youth services and administration. To become a social worker you should be excellent at reading comprehension, active listening, writing, speaking, learning strategies, and monitoring. Social workers should also be good at critical thinking and active learning. Also, if you don’t like math or science, they are necessary but not important in this career.
Career Assessment Test Help!!? I just took a career assessment test from an austrailian website and I found it to be extremely helpful because it help to confirm my areas of interests. According to the test the jobs that I may enjoy the most are those that involve helping and people. Some of the occupations that appealed to me the most were welfare community service worker, child care worker, and kindergarten and preschool teachers. When I analyzed the tasks under each of these occupations I found that I would enjoy doing just about all of the tasks under child care worker and kindergarten and preschool teacher. I also found that I would enjoy doing all of the tasks under welfare and community service worker except for the tasks which involved having to provide short term crisis counseling to victims of domestic violence, child abuse, and disasters. I am graduating in Jan. with an A.S. in human services and I don't want to get the B.S. in human services. but should I really listen to the results of this test?
I need help in choosing a major.? I am 23 years old. i have taken classes in art, psychology and many others. I have thought about a career in photography, teaching school counseling, art therapy, speech therapist, etc. This list could go on and on. my point is, i want to help people but, i still want to make a decent amount of money. i know you can't get rich in a service career. Also, i would like to have creative freedom. i currently work in an elementary school as a clerk and I see how everyone is bound to these'rules' and they can never accomplish what they set out to do. Can anyone help? I need suggestions on what career best fits these descriptions. Am I living in a dream world to think its possible to have a decent salary, creative freedom and the ability to make a contribution to society?
I have hard decision to make, will you help me? I cannot decide whether to take out a VERY large student loan and get my B.S. in psychology (we're talking above 20k)--OR-- take out a much smaller loan and get a two year specialized A.A. If I go for the psychology degree, I might eventually go on for my Masters in counseling--which is a nice career. If I go for my two year, the degree is specialized but the industry is stable and the pay is good there too. There would not, however, be a need to work upwards towards a Masters degree. In this particular industry (which is Funeral Services) the degree is much less expensive, takes much less time. I would love psychology and counseling, but this huge loan is really bothering me. I suppose I could use my counseling skills in the Funeral industry. I have much compassion for those who have lost loved ones. Any advice out there for me?
i need to find good sources for grants to individuals? i would like to take the skills that i used in social work(counseling) and training developement and expand my career to incude the certification of Life Coach. Is my marriage worth saving? I am married for 9 years. My husband has been good taking care of my needs all this while. Little did I expect he is having affair with a colleaque for 6 months. He lied that he needs to work but was with her on weekends. However, he will spend Sunday with me. He even spent his birthday with her in a hotel. They went for a holiday at a beach resort. I have evidence and after he came back, I exposed his affair and he was guilty for what he did. His can’t give reason for doing it, told me they are able to communicate and they just started (I have to admit that we have some communication issue). He promised he will end the relationship (which he did recently). He said this was his big mistake and promised never do it. He wanted to start afresh with me. He consoled me to make plan to move on and forget the past. He went to find out counseling services which he will attend with me to help me to get thru the trauma. I am in my 30s, quite attractive and have good career. No children.

Changing Career? Want to work in social services, child protection that sort of thing. Currently work as an admin/PA and desparate to escape. I have GCSE's, A Levels, EDCL, a Counselling Level 2 certificate and a DipHE where I studied Early Years and Pscyhology. I am doing voluntary work with 'vulnerable people' to give me some experience. What do I do next? More qualifications? Keep at the voluntary work? I can't afford to give up my job of 20k a year to do a lower paid role in the care field even if it would get me a lot more experience.
I want some career advice...? I am currently working as a high school teacher. I have qualifications in Education and Information Technology. I have previously worked in tutoring, sales, and customer service. I would love to do something full time with kids that isn't teaching. I enjoy working with them on a one on one basis, like a counselling or mentor role, but less formal. I am studying a life coaching course, and would love to work in film or TV production or photography. I prefer to work alone rather than as part of a team. I also enjoy working at my pace. I would love to manage myself in something. Any ideas?
Where do I begin? I am a single mother of a 6 year old and a 7 mnth old. I am a high school graduate, I have 1 full year of college (12 credits?), and a certificate in Computerized Career Skills from a business school. I have been working for 15 yrs. in grocery, retail, customer service, airline, bank teller, telemarketing, office assist., and most recently legal secretary. When I was a young girl I rarely played house or school, I remember always pretending to have a group of kids in a circle and I was their mentor or counselor. My desire, STILL, is to help young people. I want to pursue a career in counseling/therapy for young people, Middle School/ High School age. Where do I begin? Right now I work for a company that is very involved in helping young people, but my position is not hands on, it's more fund raising. Any advice on how I start?
Who Is Fed Up With The Divorce (machine) System? III? Lawyers may have a service to offer but Lawyers in court have one agenda - to win at all costs - regardless of the emotional and hard currency it costs a couple and the children. The win/loss ratio gives them the ability to up their hourly rates. Counseling should be initiated when there are first signs of problems in the marriage. Women also have affiars that destroy homes not just men. - 80% of all divorces are filed by women. Men are stuck with majority of the costs in most cases for years to come yet women scream for equality before a divorce. Women also go through personal crisis around 30 and question their lives after several years of house, home, family, marriage and careers. Men go through mid-life crisis also affecting their clear thinking of what decisions they have made that have left them feeling ambivalent. People have lost belief in structured systems. The ideology of marriage is shifting. The media screams divorce even along out hi-ways with billboards.

What should I do? I am going to school to be a counselor. I have my BA in Psychology and pursuing my Master's Degree in Human Services with a specialization in Mental Health Counseling. I just started grad school and I love it and would love counseling but I've always denied my dream of working with marine animals. Ever since I was five and went to Sea World, I knew that's exactly what I want to do. I've checked out the career options with Sea World and it turns out that my Psych degree would come in handy. I guess what I'm trying to ask is should I pursue my real dream of working with animals and probably make less money or should I stick with what I am already doing. I do not have any professional experience (besides school) for either profession and I only took one biology class in college. Am I crazy for even thinking about switching careers that I haven't even started? Sorry for going on and on but I've been really uneasy about things. Thanks for any help!
Should I major in Urban and Community Studies? I recently graduated with an A.S. in human services and I've discovered that I have no interest in getting the B.S. in human services because counseling and social work are just not my thing. I was thinking of getting a B.A. in urban and communities studies because I am interested in the world around me and I want a job or career that will allow me to give back and participate in my community. However, I am somewhat uncertain about majoring in urban and community studies because I am not a big fan of the geography and economics courses and I also am not interested in learning about public policy and administration. so my question is as follows should I major in urban and communities studies even though I am not too fond of the economics and geography aspects of the major but do like the history and political science aspect of the major or should I choose something else?

What are some good liberal arts schools? I am a future junior in high school and wants to pursue a career in psychology/counseling/sociology. I do a lot of community service and gets good grades. Mental Health Job? I am majoring in human services at a community college right now and I am guessing that when transfering to a four-year school that I would major in social work. I don't know if I want to go into therapy, though. I don't know if I would be good at giving advice, but I am empathetic, have been through mental illness myself and I just want to make a difference. I've thought about addictions counseling but I'm not spiritual so I don't think the whole 12-step thing would be good. Or maybe being a mental health tech in a hospital. I want to help others, do something fufilling, yet still make a decent earning. Last I heard, a mental health tech only makes $9-$11/hr. Is there something besides being a psychiatrist or dietitian (I am interested in working w/ eating disorders, depression, self-harm issues) that would pay the bills but also satisfy my interests? Should I major in psychology or human services/social work? What careers are in these degree areas? Help!! Thanks.

College Admissions Advisor/Career Counseling Career Info? I was thinking about going into the medical/health care field but now since I'm starting college soon I've notice how the admission advisors and career counselors were very helpful and I thought I would like to have that kind of career. I'm nice, friendly, helpful, so how does one go about becoming an college admissions advisor or career counselor? What degree is needed? I'm thinking about going into the Human Service Associates Degree program then if a Bachelor is needed I will go from there. What can one do with an Associates Degree in Human Service? My mother was a social worker and hated it so she really doesn't want me to go into Human Service but I try to tell her there's other jobs in Human Service besides social work. Is the job outlook good for careers in human service or as an college admissions advisor or career counselor? What is the salary? I would like to be an admission or career advisor at the college I will be attending because they've been so nice and influenced me.
Switching careers (something with kids?? I have a BA in psych and right now im an outpatient services assistant for a counseling center and a mentor/transporter coordinator. I hate writing people up and be in charge of so many things. I also HATE traveling. I thought about getting my masters so i could counsel but now im thinking i might not want to do that either because of all the traveling for conferences. Anyway i was thinking of going back to school to become an elementary teacher or something. I want a job where i can work with kids and not have to travel. what do you guys think? Also, if i go back how long will it take me to get my teaching certificate since i already have a BA? How do you go about opening a day care? Are day cares hard to start? Do i have to have a license etc? What do i do?!?!

domestic violence---friend needs advice? Can a domestic violence misdemeanor charge ruin a career? I have a friend whose husband is likely going plead guilty to a domestic violence charge as a misdemeanor and obstructing official business (another misdemeanor). Her husband holds a prominent job with a large organization. Will the charge effect his work or future work opportunities. He is definitely guilty. They have loads of pictures from the domestic violence program, the police etc. He hasn’t ever done this before, but he did beat her really bad. She just wondered because they have kids together and she is a stay-at-home mom. This is in Ohio. I would really appreciate links to forward to her with information. Thanks. Additional Details 2 days ago The position is a vice presidency of a nonprofit group..working only as a VP heading departments like computers, facilities, accounting, etc.. The guy is super great at his job. He has a binge-drinking problem and anger management issues at home. At work everybody LOVES him because he is so quiet and greatat getting his job more than done! 2 days ago She is giving a victim impact statement at the pre-trial. She filed a CPO and had an attorney. There isn't going ro be a trial because his lawyer said he is pleading guilty to the DV misdemeanor. 2 minutes ago How do I scroll to another page to see additional feedback. Update: My friend, through her church, therapy and her own beliefs would like her family to be healed and remain together. Her husband is ignoring her and is supposed to be filing for a divorce and won't talk to her. She extended anolive branch and he basicallyemotionally beat her with it. His family supports him, she has no family, just us friends. She is a mess emotionally..devastated! IShe is in counseling and so are the kids and then someone called social services and they came to see her. They went from being a niddle class family to poverty-stricken. It is terrible. His pre-trial is Monday and she is trying to write her victim impact statement. She knows he will serve her with divorce papers right after that. He's being nasty now and she has the opportunity to get the prosecutor to put him in jail, and yet she doesn;t want to hurt him. 1 second ago I think she was right to cooperate with prosecutors, get a CPO, deny visitiation now, insist on bills being paid, etc. But he is mad at her and blames it all on her. She is a stay at home mom with kids and they went from middle class to having nothing because he is ignoring the CPO and there is no money for her to get gifts for the kids or anything. Friends are bringing them food and the church brought some gifts. Her boys are 4 and 12..I think, maybe 5 and 11. I don;t remember.

What would you do based upon this info? I am Josh Please keep in mind no attorney wants to help!? *Please note* My statute of Limitations is not up, shortly after being terminated from the department I was activated in the military, therefore the case was left open. The Missouri Comission on Human Rights told me I have until June to take this matter to court. From the time I was terminated upuntil now they claim they have been trying to get in contact with me but they couldnt which is not true because over the last year and a half or so I have contacted the department numerous times to try and get this off my record, once they found out the Attorny General was aware of this, they finally contacted me and launched an investigation, I feel an investigation being done by the state when I was fired by the state, will definately not be in my favor, so I am seeking counsel from someone to help me achieve my goal which is to get the bad conduct discharge off my record and also seeking monetary damages. Joshua Yount SSN ***-**-**** DOB *** **, 1982 PSC Box 3062 Vandenberg AFB Lompoc CA 93437 2-09-07 To Whom It May Concern: Being a veteran of the World’s greatest military, as many of you are I would expect you to hold integrity to yourself when hearing my story. On or about the month of December 2004 I was hired on by the Missouri Department of Corrections at Moberly Correctional Center . While I was there I came in contact with a female employee whom I befriended. On or about March 2005 she and I left with our group to attend the training academy in Jefferson City, while there I made some decisions that did not hold up to my character. On several occasions during after duty hours I consumed alcohol with this particular female. However approximately the third week of training the last one of these occasions occurred with the end result of me being accused of sexual assault and terminated from my employment due to her allegations. The Department of Corrections states that I was terminated for bad conduct for consuming alcohol and being late for class (1day late due to illness & the only other day was the day after the alleged allegation). When I was terminated I appealed this decision because I felt I was being discriminated against however my appeal was denied. Given the facts this other female Individual was consuming alcohol just as often as I was and that she was late to class as often as I, their decision was to allow her to keep her employment but terminate mine. I am under the impression that they believe I actually committed these accusations therefore terminating me for sexual assault, if they were to honestly terminate me for bad conduct for the consumption of alcohol they would have terminated this female individual as well. Regardless of what the Department of Corrections may have in their records they were aware of her actions while in the training academy. I have a letter signed by the Macon County Victims Advocate dated February 7, 2007 which states quote “ I made several telephone calls to law enforcement in Jefferson City and was told upon investigation the overall feeling was that Ms. XXXX made the accusation in order to keep from getting in trouble with her employer for drinking while in training and having relations with a fellow correction officer” this letter also states “ Ms. XXXX had a history of making false allegations in Macon County ”. I have attached this letter. After this incident I filed with the Equal Employment Opportunity but did not follow through due to family emergencies and I had also contacted the State Reps., State Senate, Director of State, the Division Director of Department of Corrections and Superintendant of Moberly Correctional Center their decisions stood final. I also seeked counsel from an attorney in Macon County who wanted much more than I could afford being a single father with 2 children at that time. It wasn’t until recently that I applied for a position as a law enforcement officer with the Travis County Sheriffs Department in Austin , Texas and found that because of the mark on my employment record I would not be able to obtain the position I was longing for. My criminal record is clean, I have many accredited hours in Criminal Justice, I am only being held back from doing what I want to, do due to false accusations from an unbalanced young lady. I am coming forward to all of you in the hopes of clearing my employment record. As giving my all but death to this country as a 6 year veteran with an Honorable Discharge from the Navy, and currently on active duty with the California Air National Guard, I do believe I deserve better than this. I have been respectful to my Commander in Chief, to the State of Missouri and have always maintained honesty and integrity. I would only hope after reading this story you too would uphold your integrity and ask yourself, does this young man deserve such a tainted mark upon his employment record? If you honestly do not think so what could you do, given the office and position that you hold? Thank You for your time. Very Respectfully, Joshua S. Yount Senior Airman United States Air Force P.S. Ms. Ettledorf had make a claim that Mr. Yount raped her when She and Mr. Yount were attending training classes for their employment with the Missouri Department of Corrections, 1 made several telephone calls to law enforcement in Jefferson City and was told that upon investigation the overall feeling was that Ms. Ettledorf made the accusation in order to keep from getting in trouble with her employer for drinking while in training and having relations with a fellow corrections officer. I took a special interest in this case because Ms. Ettledorf had a history of making false rape allegations in Macon County One case involved three young men being charged with rape when Ms. Ettledorf was once again drinking alcohol and found herself in trouble for her behavior. The cases against the young men were dropped when she admitted to my self and the prosecuting attorney that there had in fact not been a rape or sexual contact with any of the young men. At least two additional times Ms. Ettledorf was in contact with law enforcement claiming sexual assault, and these were also false. Other than this contact, I do not personally know Joshua Yount, but would hate to see a young man’ s career be jeopardized by a mark on his record that does not accurately reflect what happened. This young lady continues to have problems with “relationships” and is currently a witness in a case involving her most recent er-boyfriend being stabbed by another male subject at her home. At some point I believe it is safe to say that she is most likely the cause of her own problems. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at the above listed telephone number. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, Erica M. What is the truth of what happened on 9/11? The leaking of the until now withheld WTC blueprints this week represents a growing trend of truth seeking individuals putting aside politics and coming forth in an attempt to set the record straight on the defining event of the 21st century. One is the simplest: that our leaders are good and decent people whose efforts may occasionally warrant criticism but never because of malice or venality... But one grows up. ... And with the lawyer's training comes the reliance on evidence and the facts that persuade... After a lot of reading, thought, study, and commiseration, I have come to the conclusion that the attacks of 9/11 were, in their essence, an inside job perpetrated at the highest levels of the U S government." And of course the most important contributors to the 9/11 truth domino effect are the people.
Was the Reagan Administration the most corrupt ever? Ronald Reagan's Criminal Administration: "By the end of his term, 138 Reagan administration officials had been convicted, had been indicted, or had been the subject of official investigations for official misconduct and/or criminal violations. In terms of number of officials involved, the record of his administration was the worst ever." James Watt, Reagan's Secretary of the Interior was indicted on 41 felony counts for using connections at the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help his private clients seek federal funds for housing projects in Maryland, New Jersey, Massachusetts, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. Watt conceded that he had received $500,000 from clients who were granted very favorable housing contracts after he had intervened on their behalf. In testifying before a House committee Watt said: "That's what they offered and it sounded like a lot of money to me, and we settled on it." Watt was eventually sentenced to five years in prison and 500 hours of community service. Although not convicted, Edwin Meese III, resigned as Reagan's Attorney General after having been the subject of investigations by the United States Office of the Independent Counsel on two occasions (Wedtech and Iran-Contra), during the 3 short years he was in office. E. Bob Wallach, close friend and law classmate of Attorney General Edwin Meese, was sentenced to six years in prison and fined $250,000 in connection with the Wedtech influence-peddling scandal. The Iran-Contra scandal. In June, 1984, at a National Security Council meeting, CIA Director Casey urged President Reagan to seek third-party aid for the Nicaraguan contras. Secretary of State Schultz warned that it would be an "impeachable offense" if the U.S. government acted as conduit for such secret funding. But that didn't stop them. That same day, Oliver North was seeking third-party aid for the contras. But Reagan, the "teflon President" avoided serious charges or impeachment. Casper Weinberger was Secretary of Defense during Iran-Contra. In June 1992 he was indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of concealing from congressional investigators and prosecutors thousands of pages of his handwritten notes. The personal memoirs taken during high level meetings, detailed events in 1985 and 1986 involving the Iran-Contra affair. Weinberger claimed he was being unfairly prosecuted because he would not provide information incriminating Ronald Reagan. Weinberger was scheduled to go on trial January 5, 1993, where the contents of his notes would have come to light and may have implicated other, unindicted conspirators. While Weinberger was never directly linked to the covert operations phase of the Iran-Contra affair, he is believed to have been involved in the cover-up of the ensuing scandal. According to Special Prosecutor Lawrence Walsh, Weinberger's notes contain evidence of a conspiracy among the highest ranking Reagan Administration officials to lie to congress and the American public. Some of the notes are believed to have evidence against then Vice-President George Bush who pardoned Weinberger to keep him from going to trial. Raymond Donovan, Secretary of Labor indicted for defrauding the New York City Transit Authority of $7.4. million. { Republicans will point out that Donovan was acquitted. And that really matters in Donovan's case, because he was a Republican. But it didn't matter for Clinton or any of his cabinet, most all of whom were acquitted, because they were Democrats!} Elliott Abrams was appointed by President Reagan in 1985 to head the State Department's Latin American Bureau. He was closely linked with ex-White House aide Lt. Col. Oliver North's covert movement to aid the Contras. Working for North, Abrams coordinated inter-agency support for the contras and helped solicit illegal funding from foreign powers as well as domestic contributors. Abrams agreed to cooperate with Iran-Contra investigators and pled guilty to two charges reduced to misdemeanors. He was sentenced in 1991 to two years probation and 100 hours of community service but was pardoned by President George Bush. Robert C. McFarlane was appointed Ronald Reagan's National Security Advisor in October 1983 and become well-known as a champion of the MX missile program in his role as White House liaison to congress. In 1984, Mc Farlane initiated the review of U.S. policy towards Iran that led directly to the arms for hostages deal. He also supervised early National Security Council efforts to support the Contras. Shortly after the Iran-Contra scandal was revealed in early 1987, McFarlane took an overdose of the tranquilizer Valium in an attempt to end his life. In his own words: "What really drove me to despair was a sense of having failed the country." McFarlane pled guilty to four misdemeanors and was sentenced to two years probation and 200 hours of community service. He was also fined $20,000. He received a blanket pardon from President George Bush. Fiers pled guilty in 1991 to two counts of withholding information from congress about Oliver North's activities and the diversion of Iran arms sale money to aid the Contras. He was sentenced to one year of probation and 100 hours of community service. Fiers agreed to cooperate with prosecutors in exchange for having his felonies reduced to misdemeanors and his testimony gave a boost to the long standing criminal investigation of Lawrence Walsh, Special Prosecutor. Fiers testified that he and three CIA colleagues knew by mid-1986 that profits from the TOW and HAWK missile sales to Iran were being diverted to the Contras months before it became public knowledge. Alan Fiers received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President Bush. Clair George was Chief of the CIA's Division of Covert Operations under President Reagan. In August 1992 a hung jury led U.S. District Judge Royce Lamberth to declare a mistrial in the case of Clair George who was accused of concealing from Congress his knowledge of the Iran-Contra affair. George had been named by Alan Fiers when Fiers turned state's evidence for Lawrence Walsh's investigation. In a second trial on charges of perjury, false statements and obstruction of justice, George was convicted of lying to two congressional committees in 1986. George faced a maximum five year federal prison sentence and a $20,000 fine for each of the two convictions. Jurors cleared George of five other charges including two counts of lying to a federal grand jury. Those charges would have carried a mandatory 10 months in prison upon conviction. Clair George received a blanket pardon for his crimes from President George Bush. Duane R. (Dewey) Clarridge was head of the CIA's Western European Division under President Reagan. He was indicted on November 29, 1991 for lying to congress and to the Tower Commission that investigated Iran- Contra. After an extensive investigation, in August 1984, a House of Representatives subcommittee concluded that top-level EPA appointees by Reagan for three years "violated their public trust by disregarding the public health and the environment, manipulating the Superfund program for political purposes, engaging in unethical conduct and participating in other abuses.". Neglected nuclear safety. A critical situation involving nuclear safety had been allowed to develop during the Reagan era.
