Which Information Technology Training Provider should I opt for? After 7 years of thinking about it I have finally decided to pursue a career in Information Technology. I have come across what sounds to be a good IT training course with a good provider. I am ready to commit but still a little unsure. Is there anyone out there who could vouch for any particular IT training provider? Have you gained employment and how difficult was it finding your first IT job?
In search for advice - a career in Information Technology? I was recently made redundant from an office administration job. I was there for 15 years and do not have any other type of office work experience. I am now thinking of having a career change and going into I.T. Do you think that would be a good idea? What computer training & course provider should I choose? Do you think it would be worth investing time & money in learning a computing skill when I hear that a lot of jobs go to people from India etc, who are prepared to work well below the going rate?
Is there a market for providing training in the general concepts of technology to consumers and small biz....? I have a side business where I provide Geek Squad-like support. I also work in a Mom & Pop used computer store. The only thing that I feel true entrepreneurial spirit for is teaching/training tech stuff. I'm a slow learner, so I don't have as much to offer businesses in providing support for their technology as most of my competition. Even though I provide better customer service on the things I do support, I feel like I'll never be the "one stop shop" that businesses expect in a consultant. I've found that fast learners (most who are successful in the tech fields) are deficient teachers. I've found the career colleges to be a racket. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Career in medical transcription and medical technology in the US? Would it be possible for me to work in the US as a med tech with part time med trans given these: 1. I'm from Philippines. 2. Med tech graduate with 1 year internship experience only. 3. Underwent med trans training and currently working as med trans for almost 2 years. 4. With IELTS, ASCP, visa screen I would really want to work as med tech but is it impossible to get accepted to any hospital without prior work experience? Are there plenty of jobs for med trans? Please don't answer me with definition or copy paste of med trans or even online training courses. I want opinion or from experience
What career is right for me? Electronics Technology? HVACR? Something else? I've been having trouble choosing a career path for the last few years. I have an AS in general studies, but I can't decide what I want to do now. I want to go back to school and continue my education. I like working with my hands, and I'm told I have an eye for detail. I'm not crazy about math, though. I looked into majoring in electronics in college, but only two people signed up for the classes, so they were canceled. I'm looking into attending a technical college nearby, and they have a few electronics programs. I'm just not sure what kinds of careers are available in that area. They also have HVACR training, which looks interesting too. Again, I'm just not too sure what is available in these fields. I want a career that has at least decent pay; enough to live comfortably on. And something that won't require me to work 50-60 hours a week, every week, like I've seen my parents do way too many times. I'd also like something that's not the same exact thing day in, day out. Thanks.
Does anybody know of any good colleges known for Engineering and Computer Technology? I am 16 years old and I am trying to find a good college I can get into that will train me for a successful career in computer technology. I am very good with computers and plan on pu rsuing a career in Computer Engineering. Now I am currently living in Memphis, Tennessee so if there is someone who lives near the area, plaease inform me. Thank You.
How do I get started with a career in Information Technology? I'm 36 and would like a career change. I had a friend of mine that worked in the IT field and he said that he had the best job in the world. Making 90k a year...great hours...and doing something he really liked. I've always enjoyed working with computers but have never done anything with programming...just a regular computer user, so I would be starting from scratch as far as training goes. I know that there are no set in stone requirements for IT jobs but would like to know how to get started training for a career. I have some college...about 12 credits away from an AA, but don't know if this even matters. I see commercials for ITT tech...University of Phoenix...and things like that. I'm not sure where to start. Oh, by the way...the job that my friend was doing was He was transferring an insurance company's files from one computer system to another...I'm not sure was his title was. Thanks for any light anyone can shed on this for me. Thanks!!
Which is a better career, graphic design or Information technology? I get this great thrill out of seeing attractive magazine ads, photos, brochures, pamphlets and web sites and then wanting to learn and acquire the skills to produce them. I also love photography and desktop publishing, and possibly videography. I think I have got too many interests on my plate. But it seems the job prospects are not as good for graphic design, so my second interest became the information technology field, such as computer technician or programming. I think I am both a creative and technical person. But I can't seem to make up my mind. I had already purchased books for Adobe Photoshop CS3 and CSS. I began reading and self-training myself on photoshop and CSS. Should I do graphic design on the side instead? I got a degree in English but desire a career change. I just need to finally come to a decision once and for all.
What degree to programmer employers seek in a candidate? Information technology or Computer Science? I am interested in pursuing a career as a software engineer. I am deciding between a graduate program for a Masters Degree in Computer Science or Information Technology. Please see these two programs. http://cs.kutztown.edu/programs.asp and http://www.edinboro.edu/cwis/Math-CS/it/masters.html These are the only two PA State schools with grad programs in CS/IT. IUP has one as well, but I do not want to go there. I have a BA in Speech Communications, and have no formal training in CS. I have e-mailed the department chair of the program at KU. He suggested me to take 7 undergrad courses for me to enter the Masters program. They're program is arranged where I could concentrate my studies on programming. Would I be more marketable if i had an MSIT?
What should I pick for a career? Last week I posted a question about what type of career I should do in the future: a high-paying career that I might not want to do such as working as a doctor...or a career that I'd enjoy doing...like drawing or animating. Most people answered that I should do something that I love to do... However, now my question today is: What job fits my interests/hobbies or combines them? I don't want a job to be low-paying... Please help. Thanks. I like using creativity so I was thinking DRAWING I'm also interested in digital art and I think I'm good at technology. I'd like to act or dance but I've never had any training and once, when my friends and I were filming for a school project I found myself laughing whenever the camera turned on... Even though I'm not skilled at this, I'm also interested in writing fiction, possibly screenwriting? However, I hate writing essays. Fashion-designing's also interesting I also like investigative work. This might be because I watch too much FBI/CSI shows. Here's more cause I ran out of space: Although very inexperienced, I'd like to work with animals. I'm pretty good at math and biology but I haaaaate math. I'd like to get into the entertainment industry but that involves a lot of presentations, going on stage, etc. I get extremely nervous and shy whenever I have to present something at school. I sweat and my voice gets shaky and I start fidgeting and I don't know how to stop my shyness. SO...any suggestions or ideas? Thanks.
What are the most marketable information technology/ computer skills I can learn the easiest, in a short time? I have only HTML experience (and Dreamweaver and Photoshop) but I want to break into the high paying IT careers very soon. I'm under-experienced and under-certified. My education is a BA in Philosophy. All I have is aptitude, but I'm stuck in that catch-22. My local government workforce office will provide training (or funding for training) for certifications in IT fields. I want to have a variety of responsibilities and experience. What types of certifications and skills should I be starting out with first?
Change careers into Information Technology? I want to change careers into information technology, I am currently in an entirely different field, and am only computer savy from a user standpoint. What is the best way, where do I start to get the necessary training to get a microsoft or cisco certification? I have been looking around, but its difficult to know where to start to get the basics to advance to being able to take certification exams.
Advise on career change...? Hi All, I am 25. I graduated in 2006 with a 2:1 in Applied Computing. I joined a very well kown investment bank on their technology graduate training programme. Since this training programme I have been in my current role as a technology deveoper for about a year an a half. I really hate my job. I honestly believe that I don't want to work in technology anymore. I don't think I am suitable to this particular path, it doesn't interest me anymore, and I know I am not performing as I should be because I am not motivated anymore. This is such a tough decision. I am on an amazing salary - so much more than I thought possible to earn at 25 - £39,000. I get private healthcare and various other benefits. So If i was to leave this company, it would be a huge decision - and it would have to be for a job I know I would really love. My dilema is... Having studied computing, and been working in IT for two years - I'm not sure what career I could change to. more to come I know I have many skills that are transferrable to other careers. But I'm unsure how successful I can be with a chnage when my most practical experience is as a technology developer. I think I would like a job where I get to deal with people a lot. But I'm totally lost. Has anyone made a similar move? that could give me some adice? Or what jobs do any of you do that pay well, but that you really enjoy? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I'm so unhappy where I am now -- and cos I don't do the work properly - Im accutely aware that my management team also know that I hate it, but neither of us are talking about it. I'm in London by they way - so any job suggestions would have to be something that has opportunities in the greater london area.
Can you do a masters course in a completely different subject to your degree? I would like to do an Msc in Nutrition Therapy, but do not have a similar degree. I have a degree in Design Crafts and PGCE in Design and Technology, which included training in food technology. I also have an a Diploma in Anatomy and Physiology, Client care, Business Studies and Therapeautic Massage. I was planning to do a Diploma in Nutrition, but would like to further my qualifications and pursue nutrition as a change of career. Any advice?
What technology-related careers are available with entry-level competitive pay? Hello! I need any advice I can get. I feel as if I'm stranded. So, I'm 27 years old, and I have been in the marketing research industry for seven years, at the SAME JOB. I have an Associates Degree in Marketing, however, I am currently pursuing my bachelors in Computer Information Systems. Why? Mainly, because I love technology, but also because I want a job that gives me good flexibility with good pay. I'm anxious to change jobs NOW, so I can get some experience in the IT field BEFORE I graduate. However, I'm afraid I won't be able to get an IT job, with no prior experience, paying what I'm getting now ($52,000 per year). I've been asking many people about this, and most say that there's no way I can achieve this because the IT field is not competitive anymore. Any suggestions on particular job/careers in technology that start at this pay rate, with NO experience and willing to train? Or something that will allow me to contract independently, with steady work? Thanks.

How do i become a teacher in the US? - Hi, I need some advice please. I would like to live and work in the US and teaching is the career i am currently training towards. I am on a PGCE 11-18 yr old ICT course in the UK, at a university and have worked for a year previously in a school as a learning assistant/librarian/IT manager. I have a degree in Business Studies, but am on an Information/communication/technology post graduatre teaching course, to augment my skills. - I become fully qualified as a teacher in a year or so, in the UK, so what do i need to do to teach business studies or Information/communication studies in the US? - I know that because of the federal system each state is different, so it is a bit confusing to me. - Are there any teachers out there or professionals who know about such things, or have made a similar move? - Is there a state or two in particular, where things might be simpler for me? Help! (: - Many Thanks.
IT Training enquiry? My husband is looking to train for a career in IT. He is particularly keen on fault findinf, maintenance and diadnostics. He is unsure what courses to do and with which company. We have been warned against using Computeach. However my husband is torn between doing courses at college (night school) or through a recognised company. He has been looking at the following couple of companies in UK as we live in UK. CERCO IT training and recruitment Ltd @dvent Both seem to have good courses that they state IT companies find desirable and are recognised. Cerco states that companies such as Fujitsu services, The TechGuys, Computacenter, Banctec, Lynx Technology and ACV Europe often employ people that have dones courses with Cerco. So as you can imagine he is not sure which company to go with as they are expensive. We don't mind paying but don't want to be ripped off. My question is for advice from UK IT workers and anyone working in this industry. Tried contacting Novatech and IBM for advice but they sadly did not reply.
Career worries and change at 40? I'm almost 40 years old and earn over 70,000 yearly in an computer programming career. Is it a good idea to change careers at my age. A friend of mine finish an air conditioning tech school program and is making good money. I love the technology field, although I get tired of reading soooo many books and training to stay on top of all new technologies. I'm also worried there won't be any jobs in the future due to offshoring to India and China. What do you advise?

I work in Industrial maintenance, is trying to progress a good idea? I have a two year degree in elctrical and mechanical maintenance. I like my current job a lot, but I'm concerned that over the next few years jobs in this field will become fewer and fewer with the current loss rate of manufacturing jobs . I am very diversified in my skills; mechanics, pnuematics, hydraulics, electrical, machining, PLC's and CNC's. . Is this career going to be worth investing further training in the years to come? Would specialized certifications, such as ISA"s CIMM, IFPS's CFPPM, or electronics training be beneficial or should I just start training in another field? Because I work a rotating shift engineering and engineering technology, although the most likely choices, are out of the question. I have an interest in a computer career, but would this too be a dead end field in the years to come? Thanks in advance for your USEFUL advise and comments.
Is 32 yrs. old too late for a career change to accounting/financial management? I have 5 yrs background in e-learning industry as a designer of industry and gov't training material. My degrees are BA linguistics and MEd in educational technology. For my master's degree, I did take courses in financial management and systems theory (applied to non-profit orgs such as schools, etc.) but basically I'd be starting from zero with basic accounting courses, and a 2nd masters degree (MBA, MAcy). Will I be out of a place (just call me "gramps":) as an entry-level accountant along with 22-30 year olds at a big 4 firm? Advice for breaking into this field for an until-now academic and soft-skills guy who is good at numbers and detailed analysis?

New career wanted!? :Hi I am a licensed Aircraft mechanic but have worked in construction my whole life...long story. Frankly I am sick of construction because it is not a steady way to make a living (especially today). I am bored of it, seen it done it and it is no longer a challenge. I am a smart person, people call on me when ever they need a problem solved with their car, house, computer, you name it. I don't have the time or money to go back to school but I need a challenging career thats more hands on than not . I love technology and as hobby I enjoy build cabinetry and furniture. I can fix nearly anything and love to problem solve. I am looking for a job possibly with training in a specified field for a major company. Currently I make around 50 to 70 k a year depending on the year but would sacrifice some of that to enjoy my job as long as there was room for advancement. Does a job like this exist?

Reserve Officer Training Program (Coast Guard) Chances? I am applying for Reserve Officer Training Program with the Coast Guard. I have been a working professional for several years out of college, but I am looking to make a significant career change to something more exciting. My overall GPA for undergrad was 3.1, for professional certification, 3.25. I was not a good test taker in high school. My SAT was somewhere around 1050 (minimum 1000) and my ACT was 21 (they want 23). What are my chances for this program? I am planning on applying for Public Affairs (I minored in Public Relations) or Information Technology. Also, any application insight will be helpful.
I need help deciding on a career choice between cota and pta? certified occupational therapy assistant (cota) and physical therapy assistant or tech. I am trying to make a career change. I looked up employment adds for cota and the starting wage for a occupational assistant is $28-$40 an hour. this is full time work for an liscensed cota with an associates degree. other programs technical or assistant associate degree program don't pay nearly as much. medical assistant, respiratory therapy, medical laboratory tech and physical therapy pays between $12.00-$14.00 per hour. at least this is what I found doing job searches. I make $12-14 per hour as a home health aide with no prior training. I was hoping someone who is working as a physical therapist assistant or aide and/or an COTA could tell me if my job searches were accurate? and why the difference in pay? I was told there is no bachelor degree program with cota on associate and masters. that is fine as I already have my bachelors and an associate in medical lab technology. I'm getting my education paid for in full up to $10,000.00 but the catch is I must complete it in two years. so I want a career that will pay well after two years. laboratoy assistant, medical lab tech, respiratory tech and medical assitant didn't pan out so well and I have a degree and or certificate in all of these. I'm hoping occupational Assistant will pay more. let me also say my first choice was nursing LPN but there is a three year waiting list for that at the community colleges where I live. and the program will run out by then. I like homecare and want something in the medical field that will obtain the most income for me with an associates degree.

I am becomeing a Pharmacy Technician, any good places that I should conder for work? I am currently pursuing an associate degree in Hospital Pharmacy Technology. I am going to take my PTCB testing this summer. I have worked for Walgreens over seven months. I was supposed to get a Pharmacy Technician position that was going to open up when I first started, that never materialized. I am in the pharmacy one day a week if I ask enough. Their training is very minimal to say the least. I want to work somewhere that will train me to become intuitive with the pharmacy. So if anyone knows or is working somewhere that would be a good place to start a career. By the way I am in the metro Detroit area of Michigan, Thanks.

Help Desk or Computer repair career in Houston, TX? Are there any companies in Houston that offers OTJ training or entry level opportunity for a person who is skilled at desktop troubleshooting (hardware and software) and is very willing to learn as much as possible about Information Technology ?
I am thinking about joining the air force rotc? Currently I am taking summer classes, attending a junior college, and am a sophmore. I want to transfer to UAB in the fall of 2009. I am either going to major in Biochemistry or Biomedical Technology. I then hope to get my masters in Physicians Assitant or go to medical shchool. I hope to be able to apply for a scholarship and am currently 19. My questions however are as follows: Is is too late to join as it is my sophmore year? Will i be behind on my training if i start it my junior year or will the six weeks between sophmore and junior year catch me up? WIll i have a good chance at just a two year scholarship? How is the six weeks of basic training taken care of? Will i still have to attend officer training corps and then some kind of career training corps?(I mean i dont mind?) Any other pertinent information will be great. Thanks.
Wisest career choice? Which of these (would you say) requires the LEAST training & is a pretty stable job. Hotel management/business, Computer data/security/records, aviation, journalism (news), wildlife/parks Dept., or medical technology. Keep in mind the details are pretty vague so just a general job in these fields. Nothing too specific or demanding of me. Thanks
plz comment on the following.? N R Narayana Murthy, chief mentor and chairman of the board, Infosys Technologies, delivered a pre-commencement lecture at the New York University (Stern School of Business) on May 9. It is a scintillating speech, Murthy speaks about the lessons he learnt from his life and career. We present it for our readers: Dean Cooley, faculty, staff, distinguished guests, and, most importantly, the graduating class of 2007, it is a great privilege to speak at your commencement ceremonies. I thank Dean Cooley and Prof Marti Subrahmanyam for their kind invitation. I am exhilarated to be part of such a joyous occasion. Congratulations to you, the class of 2007, on completing an important milestone in your life journey. After some thought, I have decided to share with you some of my life lessons. I learned these lessons in the context of my early career struggles, a life lived under the influence of sometimes unplanned events which were the crucibles that tempered my character and reshaped my future. I would like first to share some of these key life events with you, in the hope that these may help you understand my struggles and how chance events and unplanned encounters with influential persons shaped my life and career. Later, I will share the deeper life lessons that I have learned. My sincere hope is that this sharing will help you see your own trials and tribulations for the hidden blessings they can be. The first event occurred when I was a graduate student in Control Theory at IIT, Kanpur, in India. At breakfast on a bright Sunday morning in 1968, I had a chance encounter with a famous computer scientist on sabbatical from a well-known US university. He was discussing exciting new developments in the field of computer science with a large group of students and how such developments would alter our future. He was articulate, passionate and quite convincing. I was hooked. I went straight from breakfast to the library, read four or five papers he had suggested, and left the library determined to study computer science. Friends, when I look back today at that pivotal meeting, I marvel at how one role model can alter for the better the future of a young student. This experience taught me that valuable advice can sometimes come from an unexpected source, and chance events can sometimes open new doors. The next event that left an indelible mark on me occurred in 1974. The location: Nis, a border town between former Yugoslavia, now Serbia, and Bulgaria. I was hitchhiking from Paris back to Mysore, India, my home town. By the time a kind driver dropped me at Nis railway station at 9 p.m. on a Saturday night, the restaurant was closed. So was the bank the next morning, and I could not eat because I had no local money. I slept on the railway platform until 8.30 pm in the night when the Sofia Express pulled in. The only passengers in my compartment were a girl and a boy. I struck a conversation in French with the young girl. She talked about the travails of living in an iron curtain country, until we were roughly interrupted by some policemen who, I later gathered, were summoned by the young man who thought we were criticising the communist government of Bulgaria. The girl was led away; my backpack and sleeping bag were confiscated. I was dragged along the platform into a small 8x8 foot room with a cold stone floor and a hole in one corner by way of toilet facilities. I was held in that bitterly cold room without food or water for over 72 hours. I had lost all hope of ever seeing the outside world again, when the door opened. I was again dragged out unceremoniously, locked up in the guard's compartment on a departing freight train and told that I would be released 20 hours later upon reaching Istanbul. The guard's final words still ring in my ears -- "You are from a friendly country called India and that is why we are letting you go!" The journey to Istanbul was lonely, and I was starving. This long, lonely, cold journey forced me to deeply rethink my convictions about Communism. Early on a dark Thursday morning, after being hungry for 108 hours, I was purged of any last vestiges of affinity for the Left. I concluded that entrepreneurship, resulting in large-scale job creation, was the only viable mechanism for eradicating poverty in societies. Deep in my heart, I always thank the Bulgarian guards for transforming me from a confused Leftist into a determined, compassionate capitalist! Inevitably, this sequence of events led to the eventual founding of Infosys in 1981. While these first two events were rather fortuitous, the next two, both concerning the Infosys journey, were more planned and profoundly influenced my career trajectory. On a chilly Saturday morning in winter 1990, five of the seven founders of Infosys met in our small office in a leafy Bangalore suburb. The decision at hand was the possible sale of Infosys for the enticing sum of $1 million. After nine years of toil in the then business-unfriendly India, we were quite happy at the prospect of seeing at least some money. I let my younger colleagues talk about their future plans. Discussions about the travails of our journey thus far and our future challenges went on for about four hours. I had not yet spoken a word. Finally, it was my turn. I spoke about our journey from a small Mumbai apartment in 1981 that had been beset with many challenges, but also of how I believed we were at the darkest hour before the dawn. I then took an audacious step. If they were all bent upon selling the company, I said, I would buy out all my colleagues, though I did not have a cent in my pocket. There was a stunned silence in the room. My colleagues wondered aloud about my foolhardiness. But I remained silent. However, after an hour of my arguments, my colleagues changed their minds to my way of thinking. I urged them that if we wanted to create a great company, we should be optimistic and confident. They have more than lived up to their promise of that day. In the seventeen years since that day, Infosys has grown to revenues in excess of $3.0 billion, a net income of more than $800 million and a market capitalisation of more than $28 billion, 28,000 times richer than the offer of $1 million on that day. In the process, Infosys has created more than 70,000 well-paying jobs, 2,000-plus dollar-millionaires and 20,000-plus rupee millionaires. A final story: On a hot summer morning in 1995, a Fortune-10 corporation had sequestered all their Indian software vendors, including Infosys, in different rooms at the Taj Residency hotel in Bangalore so that the vendors could not communicate with one another. This customer's propensity for tough negotiations was well-known. Our team was very nervous. First of all, with revenues of only around $5 million, we were minnows compared to the customer. Second, this customer contributed fully 25% of our revenues. The loss of this business would potentially devastate our recently-listed company. Third, the customer's negotiation style was very aggressive. The customer team would go from room to room, get the best terms out of each vendor and then pit one vendor against the other. This went on for several rounds. Our various arguments why a fair price -- one that allowed us to invest in good people, R&D, infrastructure, technology and training -- was actually in their interest failed to cut any ice with the customer. By 5 p.m. on the last day, we had to make a decision right on the spot whether to accept the customer's terms or to walk out. All eyes were on me as I mulled over the decision. I closed my eyes, and reflected upon our journey until then. Through many a tough call, we had always thought about the long-term interests of Infosys. I communicated clearly to the customer team that we could not accept their terms, since it could well lead us to letting them down later. But I promised a smooth, professional transition to a vendor of customer's choice. This was a turning point for Infosys. Subsequently, we created a Risk Mitigation Council which ensured that we would never again depend too much on any one client, technology, country, application area or key employee. The crisis was a blessing in disguise. Today, Infosys has a sound de-risking strategy that has stabilised its revenues and profits. I want to share with you, next, the life lessons these events have taught me. 1. I will begin with the importance of learning from experience. It is less important, I believe, where you start. It is more important how and what you learn. If the quality of the learning is high, the development gradient is steep, and, given time, you can find yourself in a previously unattainable place. I believe the Infosys story is living proof of this. Learning from experience, however, can be complicated. It can be much more difficult to learn from success than from failure. If we fail, we think carefully about the precise cause. Success can indiscriminately reinforce all our prior actions. 2. A second theme concerns the power of chance events. As I think across a wide variety of settings in my life, I am struck by the incredible role played by the interplay of chance events with intentional choices. While the turning points themselves are indeed often fortuitous, how we respond to them is anything but so. It is this very quality of how we respond systematically to chance events that is crucial. 3. Of course, the mindset one works with is also quite critical. As recent work by the psychologist, Carol Dweck, has shown, it matters greatly whether one believes in ability as inherent or that it can be developed. Put simply, the former view, a fixed mindset, creates a tendency to avoid challenges, to ignore useful negative feedback and leads such people to plateau early and not achieve their full potential. The latter view, a growth mindset, leads to a tendency to embrace challenges, to learn from criticism and such people reach ever higher levels of achievement (Krakovsky, 2007: page 48). 4. The fourth theme is a cornerstone of the Indian spiritual tradition: self-knowledge. Indeed, the highest form of knowledge, it is said, is self-knowledge. I believe this greater awareness and knowledge of oneself is what ultimately helps develop a more grounded belief in oneself, courage, determination, and, above all, humility, all qualities which enable one to wear one's success with dignity and grace. Based on my life experiences, I can assert that it is this belief in learning from experience, a growth mindset, the power of chance events, and self-reflection that have helped me grow to the present. Back in the 1960s, the odds of my being in front of you today would have been zero. Yet here I stand before you! With every successive step, the odds kept changing in my favour, and it is these life lessons that made all the difference. My young friends, I would like to end with some words of advice. Do you believe that your future is pre-ordained, and is already set? Or, do you believe that your future is yet to be written and that it will depend upon the sometimes fortuitous events? Do you believe that these events can provide turning points to which you will respond with your energy and enthusiasm? Do you believe that you will learn from these events and that you will reflect on your setbacks? Do you believe that you will examine your successes with even greater care? I hope you believe that the future will be shaped by several turning points with great learning opportunities. In fact, this is the path I have walked to much advantage. A final word: When, one day, you have made your mark on the world, remember that, in the ultimate analysis, we are all mere temporary custodians of the wealth we generate, whether it be financial, intellectual, or emotional. The best use of all your wealth is to share it with those less fortunate. I believe that we have all at some time eaten the fruit from trees that we did not plant. In the fullness of time, when it is our turn to give, it behooves us in turn to plant gardens that we may never eat the fruit of, which will largely benefit generations to come. I believe this is our sacred responsibility, one that I hope you will shoulder in time. Thank you for your patience. Go forth and embrace your future with open arms, and pursue enthusiastically your own life journey of discovery!

is it possible to start a career in the oil field at the age of 30? i have Bachelors degree in biomedical engineering and A masters degree in computer science.I worked in the field of Information technology for 3 years. I am going to turn 30 years old next year,Lately I got bored from my job and i look around and find all the jobs in the IT field lost my interest. I am interested to work in the oil field where lots of training and traveling around the world is included. that is what am looking for. a new challenge and visiting new places while still utilizing my technical knowledge. and ofcourse being well paid at the end.
Career suggestions? I am at a total loss at what to do with my life. I know this is a usual life crisis for most people, but I figured some vague guidance from complete strangers might make me feel better. First of all, I already have a technology/science type associates degree mainly focusing on Equine Science and Management. The school I went to had a truly amazing program, and I would have finished my bachelors but there are reasons why that can't be a possibility. My originial childhood dream was to be a horse trainer. I've been riding and training for most of my life, and it is my true passion, but making that kind of young girl dream a reality is seeming more and more fickle (sp?) as time goes on. I was then interested in becoming a Veterinary Technician/Technologist. However, the salary is really unimpressive, which is incredibly disappointing. Not that being a trainer would be any better, but I didn't think about that at the time. As you can see, I have a strong passion for animals, and would really enjoy a career that includes them. I especially favor horses and dogs (surprise, surprise). However, I have no desire to be a Veterinarian. It is not really the career itself, simply the schooling required. I guess what I'm looking for is ideas of a career that I would enjoy doing that would provide a decent income to support my future. If only everyone could be so fortunate right? Hey, it's worth asking. Thanks :D

I would like to have a career in computers, but can I? I enjoy learning how they work and how use what other don't even know...but what can you do when you see that you're not going to be the best or even close? II would like to continue my training in the Information Technology field, but what's the point if I become nothing but a failure. Any ideas? I willing to hear any one out. And I am truly in dire need of some advice...

Salary Expectations? Hi, I am due to enter negotiations regarding my salary. I have around 8 years experience in IT from a career point of view, and have trained towards an MCSA (waiting for exams). I am looking after 14 servers in 3 locations. We are opening another office down south which I will be expected to support The servers include 4 DC'c, 2 Exchange servers, 1 SQL Server, File Servers, FTP Servers; as well as the company phone system, copiers, software licencing and 3 netscreens and 1 WiFi bridge and to support approx 45 staff I am also expected to source new technology like media players, etc for the work the company actually does. We are increasing the servers to around 20 in the next fews months as well implementing company wide VoIP technology and better WAN comms. What I need to know is should I be asking for more than the £25,000 plus car I am currently on? My TItle is IT Manager and I am in the East Midlands area Cheers

My TItle is IT Manager and I am in the East Midlands area Cheers Incedently I did study and gain a Computer Science HND (Could not afford the extra two years!!) I consider the title more Management of IT rather than "IT Manager", but I do attend the main management meetings, and am considered a senior member of staff. I only ask the question after a conversation I had with someone who said that people he had intervoed and knew in my area, and in similar sized businesses were earning better packages than me. It is sometimes difficult to measure yourself against the industry standard when working for an SME as you are expected to wear so many hats. In repsonse to some of the questions, yes I do support all the Server applications, although I do require more specialised support for SQL. I also do basic front line support for the end user applications like 3D max, Microstation and Solidworks.

College student interested in pet care industry? I am currently in college, majoring in sociology and I have a particular interest in pet care and would like to pursue a career path in that direction. I am not particularly interested in veterinary sciences or technology, but I do enjoy interaction with animals and would perhaps like to begin a pet sitting service eventually. I am currently employed in kennel as a supervisor and can see prospects in grooming and other areas that appeals to pet owners. Most jobs in these areas are hands-on and on the job training, a college degree isn't very necessary for any of this stuff, but is there any schooling or other tips that could help me in this career direction? A change in major? Any tips, suggestions, or info is appreciated. Thanks.

What can TACP do after the military? Okay. I'm going to BMT for the Air Force in two months and I'm pretty headstrong about getting into TACP. I passed my PAST with flying colors (9:00 on the 1.5mile run, 79 pushups, 67 situps, 12 pullups, as well as success on the 500 meter swim and 20 meter underwater swim). I no longer have a doubt in my mind about blowing shit up for a career in the USAF. My question is, however, what can TACP do after the military? Based on some research, I know that TACP would be qualified for any job that requires wielding a gun (a police officer, FBI Agent, Secret Service, etc.) due to their intense physical training sessions and their mastery with weapons. On the other hand, their CCAF degree reads Systems Information Technology... So if anyone can shed some light on any of this, it would be useful: ex-TACP/JTAC personnel, military experts, etc. My other question would is: What can you do in civilian life that allows you to carry a gun and use a computer at the same time?
Vocational College or a Traditional college degree? which path? Hello everyone, well to breifly update you on my situation, I'm 24 and looking to make a career change. Im going to try and get into the IT field (Information Technology) more specifically either computer networking or security. But after talking to a few people in the field, i've gotten two different responses. One telling me to simply try and get a certificate + training through a vocational college so that I can get into the field and start getting experience ASAP. And another saying to go the traditional way and earn a BS degree then start working. Ive done the research and it does seem that having a BS degree will benefit me when applying to large corporations, but, nonetheless they require extensive experience that could be obtained while working instead of going to school that extra 2-3 years. So I'm torn. I'd like to get in the field ASAP if possible but if absolutely necessary i'd go the long way. Any suggestions?? Anyone gotten a degree through vocational colleges?

to all the veterinarians....does this look like a start? Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science - Pre-Veterinary Concentration The pre-veterinary concentration allows the student to receive a Bachelor's Degree in Veterinary Science, meeting the requirements for most Veterinary Schools as well as the requirements for the two-year, AVMA-accredited program in Veterinary Technology. Students are advised that the requirements of each Veterinary School are different, and that they may need to take additional courses to meet the pre-requisite requirements of a specific school. Students should be prepared to begin the application process at the end of the Junior year and may receive feedback at that time on how they might make their application stronger. An integral part of the program is the Lenfest Animal Health Center. This on-campus veterinary clinic treats hundreds of animals annually and allows students to gain valuable hands-on clinical experience as part of the curriculum. In addition to the veterinary clinic on campus, field trips are made to local shelters and farm animal facilities. These out-reach programs give the students experiences with a wide range of animal species. Supplementing the didactic course work is an externship in which the student receives hands-on training in an approved research facility, private veterinary practice or veterinary teaching facility. Am I too "picky?" Or should I take the job? I need a fast decision. Now the thing is...I am not puting down the food service industry... I have an A.A. Degree...I also have a Substitute Teacher certificate...I am still going through the process of getting my paperwork together to become a substitute teacher. The substitute teacher job would pay more money but I do not know how "steady" employment would be. Also, my college major (and intended career) will be computer repair and graphic design. Once I finish my Bachelor's degree. I am skilled in Graphic Design and PC troubleshooting. If I start working as a substitute teacher (and the hours are not enough) then I also (and possibly reguardless) would want to get a job in information technology doing troubleshooting. The thing is that I was offered a job as a assistant manager for a very popular pizza place but I would have to drive a rather long distance to a training store for two weeks before I could start working at my own store. Some problems I have is that my car is not trustworthy enough to do deliveries or possibly even drive to the "training store." Also, I have worked in food service many times in the past and they seem to end badly because I become depressed about being there (I'm not lazy, I just really have lost the desire for working in food service.) The substitute teacher position pays more an hour though and I could always ride the bus to the schools I would teach at until my car was repaired. The problem is that many family members are telling me that I should take whatever "crap job" (no offense) that I am offered first reguardless of how bad it is or how little it pays or how small the hours are. They told me it was better even (before) that the one job I used to have was better to have it even though it cost me more money in gas and taxes than what I was making at the job! (My family members said they would or could not help me if I didn't take the first job I was offered and I failed in finding another "better" job.) Of course the hope is that I would not need their help in the first place. Do to what my relative would do to me when I was younger about taking jobs and even more recently...I am not good at turning down job offers and feel obligated to take them. I was offered two jobs during the summer I checked both out showing up for work but one was better (I had planed to to work at both) but one wanted me all for themselves and I quit the other one (that was not good to begin with) but then the day I was supposed to start as a manager (it was a movie theater and I had been training.) I was told that there was not enough business and not to come back in...ever again. So I have not had the best "luck" or experience with job searches in the past.
